Which of the 4 majors is a must for a top player ?
I did not have Novak or Murray or anyone in specific. Obviously this would be French and Wimbledon.Let us take someone like Berdych or Wawrinka, who are accomplished on all surfaces. which major would add more value to their career ?
I doubt either player will win a slam so it probably doesn't matter
Ok, forget these two. The next guy outside of Murray, Novak and Fedal - which major should he win ?
Right now.....The French Open.
Djokovic is desperate for the French, and I think he feels that as long as Nadal is still in good form, he may never get it.
Before that. probably Wimbledon.
I can't think of anyone outside those 4 right now trutfully who have a shot in hell of winning a slam for the next 2 years anyways. It probably be someone we aren't even aware of now.
Maybe Dimitrov? A wimbledon win would be nice from him
dimitrov is not even good enough to win a masters title, let alone a slam.
his problems:
1. single hander
2. zero testicular fortitude
3. does not move well enough
Wimbledon is still the most prestigious. However, the lack of a US Open or an Australian open since they are supposed to me in the middle of the court speed is the most glaring. (In actual fact the Australian Open approaches clay court speeds and the US open is heading in that direction).
So it is down to - what do you want - the most prestigious or not to have the most glaring ommisions?
An interesting comparison would be the careers of Lleyton Hewitt and Jim Courier. Hewitt won Wimbledon and the US Open whereas Courier won the Australian Open and the French. I know that Courier won more slams but do you think he would prefer the slams he won be Wimbledon and the US Open? I suspect so. All down to opinion though.
The choice of Wimbledon over FO is almost like 4:1 in the polls. Shows Federer's and Sampras 7 wimbledons in true light in terms of its value. Federer has one more final as well and who knows he may just win an other one in the next years. Truly a remarkable all time great achievement.
Which of the 4 majors is a must for a top player ?
Then how did he manage to outlast Djokovic in Madrid?
Don't tell me Djokovic was in a gifting mood that day.
People who are putting French over Wimbledon shouldn't even consider themselves tennis fans. There's no way you can be that deluded in your love for Nadal to put French above Wimbledon
In the view of the Players, World Press and even the most casual of fans Wimbledon is the one biggie...........
Just about every player on tour will tell you the one dream they all have is to hold the trophy at SW19.......over all others.
Wimbledon of course. It's the principal tournament of tennis by default. Its prestige is ever ongoing.
its tennis. every dog has his day once or twice in a lifetime.
can they do it year around and for 10-12 years?
either you have it or you don't.
dimtirov does not have it.
