Let us hope for safe passage into the third round.

No match for The Eagle aujourd'hui but if you time it right with your Plage de Sud activities you might coast homeward in his jet stream!

Sorry, Seth!

Gasquet's injury is a bit more serious than I first thought, from tennis world usa:

It's been a disappointing week for Richard Gasquet, as the best-ranked Frenchman has been trapped by Lumbosciatica - a pain located in the lower back of a person's body.

This forced Gasquet to announce his withdrawal from this week's Rolex Monte Carlo Masters. Furthermore, Gasquet will also miss the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, to be held in Spain next week.

"I thought that with a fortnight's rest, it would pass," Gasquet told L'Equipe, as quoted by Sport24.

"It is always the same: an irritated nerve in the lower back, sciatica ... I'll move to a more radical treatment undergoing infiltration in the days to come."

Considering Richie this morning when it occurred to me that a tattoo in his honor would goad him to greatness.

It's basically a french thing. Yanick Noah is an extreme example.

Plus, he is in wrong era. Very unfortunate that ATP fundamentally switched to
baseline tennis around 2003-2004 when Wimbledon and US Open slowed their
surfaces rather abruptly and ATP started using heavier balls with thicker layers.

He could have been great(er) player if he was playing in any other time in entire
tennis history before 2003.

He's been practicing on-site at Roland Garros for the past few days. No word yet as to whether he'll actually play.

All we can do now is pray.

I'd love to see him play but I'd much rather see him back to 100% for the grass and summer seasons.

Playing tomorrow second match on Suzanne... Tomic beat him last year at Wimbledon...
Gasquet hasn't played since march and Tomic hasn't won a match since Sydney in january. I really don't know what to expect?

On any other surface I'd agree. But Tomic is 11-18 on clay; his movement will probably always limit his results on clay - unless he develops a consistent 140mph 1st serve. Gasquet will be fine tomorrow.

This is my opinion as well. Really hoping Richie has a straight set win tomorrow. It'd be nice for him to get into a groove considering his lack of matches on clay this year.

Richard was impressive today. Didn't push himself too hard because he didn't need to. Maintained focus throughout the match and was rewarded with a straight-set victory.

Allez.

Gasquet has a pretty good draw for US Open 2014. If he can somehow play at the level he did last year and Dimitrov takes out Monfils he can get to the Quarters.

He has defeated Dimitrov on fast courts before though babyFed is playing better these days. Reeshard doesn't play well against his countrymen so babyFed must take out Monfils. Reeshard is too nice to his friends. :)

As the Swiss bludgeon each other at the WTF and expend wasteful energy in defeat Gasquet and his musketeers are planning for Davis Cup glory!

Yes, we played shiddy today but Gasquet is a big reason France is in the final of Davis Cup winning in both singles and dubs against Australia and then doing the same against Czech. No easy task.

I will always remember your effort!:

Didn't know that Gasquet played so much Davis Cup doubles.

I was dumbfounded when he came out to play with Benneteau today against the Swiss team - I even started a thread asking about the politics going on there. Don't mean to offend any fans and dump on the poor guy, but it seemed clear to me that France had more than one option among their players to produce a more competitive team.

I wouldn't have been surprised if Richard got the nod to play singles, just because he seems to have quietly and steadily evolved into both a smarter and tougher player over the course of the last year or two. He seems to be working hard to get it right while he has a few competitive years left in the tank.

I 100% believe Gasquet can add a another glorious win over Fed tomorrow on clay if needed.

He has good wins in singles in Davis Cup. Against both top 10ers and rising stars.

Lol good choke from Richie today. Weak forehands on breakpoints for France, slower second serves than Murray, unforced errors on pretty all his headers...a real disaster.

Well, it was Roger Federer and Wawrinka they were playing.
I've seen them beat Rafa & Lopez at Indian Wells and many other greats too.

Looks like you haven't read my posts during the match and after.

I'm a big crititc of Gasquet's play today. it happens. Easy to play the expert AFTERWARDS.

And, BTW, your Tsonga story is utter BS. You have no legit source he voluntarily quit out of fear an hour before.

Looks like you haven't watched the double today? Benny was good and Richie was a mess.

Go Switzerland ! Benneteau should have been rewarded for his good performance and have been selected. Gasquet was the weak link yesterday as he was broken three times and is now facing RF !! Clément is a joke.

Try to at least get your facts straight. While noone would say Gasquet played a good match, two of the three breaks happened in Benneteau's service games.

I would say getting broken is not necessary the servers fault in doubles, did you see Federer's last game, Wawrinka made it easy for him putting everything away.

It's not a question of who's fault it was, but a simple question of facts. Boom-boom was spouting nonsense when he said that Gasquet got broken thrice.

Correct re your facts, sorry. Hope Gasquet will be doing better today but very doubtful. Marc Rosset just said in French newspaper tactics on serve was to target Richie's forehand 80% of the time and it worked perfectly.
