4-6, 6-4, 6-4 over a peaking Cam Norrie. Volleys, spin, patience, tactics and a beautiful game won the day.

That third set was nerve-racking. I almost went to watch something else at one point. Cam had to be kicking himself all the way home and in his sleep.
Too bad Gasquet didn't practise his Haka. But that Haka is the best awards ceremony I've ever seen.

He explains how his forehand ended up his weaker side, gives his insights on the best backhands in the game and gives a very honest account of the pressures he encountered when he was a junior...so far so good.

Lots of folks complain about his forehand, but he wins a lot of points with it.

A little career inflation for Richard. He can stick around as long as he's healthy. Even Gasquet has a shot against literally all of the kids. Love me some swashbuckling tennis with flair. I wish he had had enough to make more headway against the Big 3.

Classic trophy reception reaction! Gasquet looks like he’s about to be thrown into a cauldron of boiling water as penalty for beating a Kiwi in the final.

I am not a huge fan, but I mentioned a few times last years he looked to be playing some of his best tennis. Just a consistent grind and no real easy exits. I think he can roll through a few lower ranked tourneys and give these gives some heartburn still.

16th title for Gasquet and 16th at ATP250 level. This places him joint 2nd with Cilic in the ATP250 active leaderboard, both now 1 behind Murray. It also places him joint 8th with Wawrinka and Isner in the ATP Titles Leaderboard for active players.

This win for Gasquet will secure him an very early exit in AO. He must be absolutely thrilled winning his probably last title after a 5 years wait. No gas left in the tank now and not motivated enough the nearest time, that's just how Richard's always been... Great win in Auckland though, kudos!

LOL :-D it doesn't look good, I admit that. However, I saw Gasquets match vs Humbert with a couple of hours delay since they played in the middle of the night from where i live. I wrote my post sometime in a changeover early in the first set and I had absolutely no knowledge bout the outcome of the match and wasn't thinking they had ended it. So I do think it was a good try... All my apologies for any confusion I may have created here. 8-B
