I am fairly certain that there is a Federer News Thread somewhere.... The main reason Nadal News was created was because of his injuries (Don't know why they don't post (more) stuff about Rafa's matches/results when there are no injuries *shrug*), hence the little participance in the Federer News Thread.

There may have been, but I felt a fresh thread would rejuvenate the idea.

I just think it would be good if we concentrated all the Federer news in one area.
Positive news would be best, injuries make for unpleasent discussion. :)

I totally agree. I miss Nadal. I tend to watch his matches and Feds more seriously than others, but I got awfully tired of the pictures. The worship there is almost scary.

That's not to say that fans of other players are not equally scary. ;)

Yeah....I was quite confused when I first stumbled onto that thread, that's for damn sure. Every now and then someone posts an interesting interview or article, but other than that....

This years WTF is going to be one of the hardest memories for me. I'm not a fan of Novak (I don't dislike him in any way either), but it felt to me like he was denied the kind of credit he deserved. I did feel like he was the stronger of the two players last week, and I would imagine winning felt a bit empty - to say the least. And he really couldn't say anything.

Strangely, looking back on it, I wish Stan had won. He probably had little chance against Novak in the final, but it would have been a more fitting end to the year.

Wimbledon was tough though, I have always thought Fed losing on Centre Court is unnatural.

I see Roger as having had only one "true" loss at Wimbledon, when he wasn't pre or post-prime, and that was 2008.
Federer was in his prime, and he lost 9-7 in the fifth to the second greatest player ever, who also has a great match-up against Roger.

That's the one and only time he was playing at his proper level at Wimbledon and lost.
All others can be more or less explained by post-prime-ness etc.

All his other losses there combined aren't as significant as that one was.

Djokovic fully deserved his Wimbledon win this year, but I don't consider him to have beaten the "true" Roger Federer at Wimbledon. He beat a Swiss gentleman who was the second best guy in the draw that week, and who can still play tennis fairly well. :)

Only Nadal has taken it to Prime Fed at Wimby and won.

I agree with that, but I also have to say that Novak was unlucky in his timing because he did not develop as quickly as Rafa (and many of the greatest players in history did not reach such an early peak), and he was in the shadow of Fed and Nadal.

I don't even go near the whole question of "greatest of all time". I only think about eras when multiple players were competing against each other, and the story is not over yet.

Because I am a person who basically likes to be fair I think I would like to see Novak end up with the best possible record when he retires, so I'd like to see him win more slams. Towards this end I'd love to see him strengthen his net game, add more aggression to his game. He'll be 28 next year, so shortening points is the way he needs to go. Nadal too. Even he can't plan to win too much more on clay without shortening points. Father Time always wins...

His passing shots at Wimbledon were quite good, even if depressing. ;)

I have thought this for a while.
14 GS in modern era is impressive to say the least.

Novak has the talent to be much better at the net. He just has to commit himself to it. He will never has as dominant service games as Fed, because his serve is not as good. It's not the speed. Fed has an uncanny ability to hit spots. I don't think Novak can equal that.

But Novak has one of the greatest return games ever. I would rate him equal to anyone, in any era. So if he can become a little more aggressive, I think he can still win at age 33 or even 35 - if he stays healthy.

I REALLY like Novak as a human being. I still remember that in 2013 he had made commitments right after the USO for some kind of charity, and everyone said he was overextending himself. But he did the thing.

I give "points" to players for being good in ways that have nothing to do with winning. I have huge respect for Murray now because he came back to the WTF and played, on zero notice, and to me that is simply class.

Absolutely. A player's overall character is important to me as well, not just their results.
Novak should be more aggressive than he is. It would suit him I think.

Novak has the talent to have more than 7 slams right now. There are a couple over the years he should have won. But still, 6 slams since 2011 is strong and I believe his numbers will just increase more and more. Because he is that great.

When I said laughing at you, given the fact I can't see him, it was blatantly obvious that I was laughing at what he posted. I apologize that these things need to be pointed out to you.

As for hanging out at the Nadal news thread directly meaning you are indeed a Nadal fanatic, I wasn't aware of such a thing.

Tell me, why are you a Nadal fanatic? I only ask because you hang out at Nadal news more than I do. In fact, if we do a post count in that thread, I'm pretty sure you've contributed to it more than I have (even though everything you've added has been absolute garbage and 90% of your posts have been removed)...

I stayed up to watch the Gasquerer match and was quite emotional when he won.

But RG 2009 was something else. Probably the most important win of his career.

Edit: Only just noticed! They didn't shake hands at the net!

Have we had confirmation as to whether or not Edberg will continue coaching Federer in 2015?

Federer won Shanghai and Davis cup for the first time this year, meaning he might choose to give them a miss in 2015. Seeing as he's approaching 34 it could reduce his schedule and leave him marginally fresher. He had an awful lot of matches this year and with the exhos in india and vs stan and lleyton I fear hes overplaying, especially in light of his back issue resurfacing
