So Uniqlo spends 300 million dollars on Federer..

..only to give him the crappiest, ugliest outfits of all time?

I thought the Federer deal was supposed to be a GOOD advertisement for the company?

Remember back when the Swiss Maestro used to dress like this?

Also this.

60 bones is a little disappointing but I will hold judgement until i feel the material

It stinks because these will never go on sale season-style like Nike **** so 60 bucks will always be 60 bucks
But he doesn't want to "read". He wants to complain. That is the whole point.

Meanwhile, predictably, the Nike fanboys cry on the top of their lungs "OMG, bad" when the colours are very well selected and very wearable (again) with subtle recognisable design elements and this time without the "lab coat" collar, which was IMO, not a good decision. The price, however, is a departure from the Uniqlo policy, but , considering what their competition wants for their top stuff, who can blame them?

Price is SGD60 (USD45). The same as the previous RF outfits for AO, Shanghai and same price for Novak and Kei's stuff in the past.

Djokovic' current outfit is by far the best onTour now. This is 6/10 outfit - very average.

You are being very generous with that score haha.

Agree. And the area he says is listed on the Uniqlo site is not there. It has started to sound less like he wants the gear and more like he is trying to smear Uniqlo's online and physical stores (imo). I have seen @NuBas try to explain the situation to him at least 4 or 5 times.

and which lucky store has that display? Sure ain't San Francisco. Meanwhile, the Uniqlo website for USA still says...........Temporarily OUT OF STOCK due to high demand More product COMING SOON.

I think that was in Singapore so prices in SG$, which is the same as the previous outfits prices in Singapore

First, I am also not a fan of the design. That said, according to the pictures posted, it seems Roger can pull it off (once more).
Second, I understand that us fans would like to see other designs but to me it seems that the approach of the company and Roger is totally different. I feel it's all about brand awareness and having people discussing the outfits (re-tweet here and there not matter if the message is positive or not). It will in the end look good on tv and ultimately it does not matter if we buy the outfit or not. It will anyway sell out. UNIQLO only offers a limited quantity of outfits and so far it seems to work for them. All of his previous releases sold out despite many people complaining about the design, saying it was boring, disliking the color etc.

I honestly think it's not about selling tennis outfits, not at all.

PS: Although the vast majority complains about the new design it seems that most of you visited UNIQLO's website nevertheless. Traffic increased, there is always an add to other items and maybe one or the other gets more and more familiar with the brand and buys other stuff from them one day. Thus, I do understand the fan-perspective, but I also understand the company's perspective ...

Very good summary of the situation.

We are definitely harsh critics of the Federer x Uniqlo partnership, and there are many reasons for that.

Do you think Uniqlo could potentially still achieve the goals of brand awareness, spiking website traffic and stimulating online engagement while also creating a good tennis line?

I think they should be able to. It's a balancing act they were able to achieve with Djokovic and Nishikori (albeit on a smaller scale). I hope they have the same expectation to produce some decent lines while Federer does his time with the brand.

They did manage a really good kit for him during the Asian hardcourt swing last year but apart from that it really has been disappointing.

I wonder if the best Federer kits are being held over for the 2020 Olympic year, and that explains the rash of horrible garb to start his tenure with the brand.

Can't compare to Nike. I mean, look at this:

There's really no comparison.
looks are great... on the photo! I'd NEVER wear that during a day match on a hot sunny day !! it absorbs the heat instead of reflecting it...

above all it needs to be functional !

the ugly colours... well for red clay they might work and actually be functionall to sort of mask the stain from the red clay on the short's pockets from lpacing and removing balls with clay powder on them !!

Huge surprise... Not on the US site... Not the best colors, but I'd like to support the brand, and Fed. The stuff I have of Uniqlo, I like, but its so hard to get the sizes I need at the store here in Orlando, and when I look online it's hit or miss...

Yep. The moment Ellesse dropped Lopez the guaranteed GOAT outfit contender disappeared

edit: I should clarify I think Djokovic is dressed very boring... but was simply saying that until now the best outfits were routinely held by Lopez

It'll mask stains alright :-D It's Paris, not the Amazon, and since when was poo brown a good light reflector?

But wait, I missed something: Individually they're nothing, but put those two outfits together and Uniglo is telling a story - the chronological history of dog poo.

The complete outfit is much more wearable and subtle than the people here give it credit for.

My prediction: soon the opinions on it will change (except for the most staunch fanboys), and, of course, it will be gone in no time from the stores.

I will be getting Kei's kit for sure. Do you plan to get anything from the Federer or Nishikori lines?

I got both sets of the new RF kit in Singapore. They look fine & cheap compared to Nike. I collected quite a fair bit of Nike RF kit & agree 2012 was some of my favs but all of them are unusable now as all the hot glue seams have delaminated eg. Collar zipper. Thankfully Uniglo seams are stiched.

You've got to question the logic of those who attempt to sidestep the hideous aesthetics by touting Uniqlo's perceived 'Kmart' virtues, and describe those who point out Uniqlo's shockingly obvious lack of style as fanboys. Exactly how many 'non-fanboys/reasonable people' looked twice at Uniqlo tennis clothing before Federer came on board? (P.S. I personally wouldn't be seen dead wearing Fed's shirt, shorts and 'original accessories' together whatever the brand - that is the tennis epitome of idolatrous posing. P.P.S. Yeah, it'll sell, but that's an indictment on the lack of emphasis the consumers of said product place on actual aesthetic merit.)

Ouch!

To be fair, not all were with hot glue seams. My last RF polo dates from 2014, and it had regular seams.

As for the rest, that was expected. Uniqlo exceeds the expectations time and again with kits that are subdued, wearable and relatively cheap. Add to that the fact that they often provide the original accessories (especially socks), and they beat the **** out of their supposedly "better" competitors. I love the fact that while the fanboys are sucking it up and basically pay for the brand, the reasonable people are getting the best in terms of balance.

This. I'm glad I stopped buying Nike stuff 10-12 years ago and moved to either Adidas or Uniqlo.

And they supposedly give him 300m to wear this crap ? I don;t believe it.

Nishikori's stuff is way better.

Federer will look like a 67 year old in these blend colours :sneaky:

Awful. Uniqlo is failing bigtime. Everything Fed has worn for months has been crap.

Agree
