Watching Goffin's performance against Federer, it is sad how the competition crumbled against the Big Three in majors.

Goffin's performance against Federer today was pitiful and exactly what we have seen time and time again from the field against the Big Three at grand slam events.

It is amazing that a 38 year old Federer was so dominant against a guy who is ranked 15th in the world. Goffin didn't even look like a ranked player. He felt like a challenger who had never played a match against Federer before.

The sad part about Goffin's performance is that it was not an anomaly. Time and Time again, we see all these players who are ranked top 50 in the world play great tennis at the early stages of a major and then when confronted with the Big Three fall apart.

I understand that Federer is a once in a lifetime player but how in the world can a guy like Goffin not even provide any competition at this point.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Big Three win all of the majors for the next 5 years.

I admit I had no interest in watching that match once I saw a partial score of the first set.

Seriously, Goffin, was that the best you could do?

They are lucky Serena is not in the ATP, otherwise the 'best tennis player ever' would have surpassed federer.

Can you blame Goffin? He had a poster of Federer in his room when he was a child. Goffin is a strong player and would win plenty of masters 1000 tournaments in 03-07 era. He just wants Federer to lead the slam race between big 3 so hes ok with this loss. He has many years ahead of his career compared to his 38 year old idol.

I can't be sure, but I think that something was wrong with Goffin today. Maybe he is sick or something because he was not running or competing as well as he usually does.

He couldn't beat Dimitrov for the WTF or Medvedev for Cincy this year and you think he'd win "plenty" of Masters during Fed's prime with Rafa, Roddick, Hewitt, Safin and Agassi running about?

The man's not a closer. He's just like Nishikori, plenty of talent and can go toe-to-toe with some of the big hitters, but can't win finals no matter who he's playing.

the problem is consistency.

few players in history have had an average level as high as fed, djok and nadal.

bonus mention for fed especially --> Fed's avg level is ludicrously high - just see his consistency over the course of his career.

on an average day goffin is gonna lose to the big 3.

Sore left shoulder.

Seems to be common when someone is hitting you off the court.
