Djokovic to play two more year

Someone posted this on the Djokovic News thread. Translation seems to indicate that he said he will play two more years. That is big news and warrants its own thread. All those posters counting all the future Slams for the young guns might need to pause and think about what the old wolf can still do.

Sorry about title typo.

Announcing means nothing, it will all depend upon his result

He was joking, in reality he dont want to stop because he can still win majors. Wimbledon 2025 is the last goal in my opinion.

Djokovic will be 39 when he calls it quits then, I don't think he'll want to stink up the tour if he's a pinata for the likes of Sinner or Alcaraz.

Good. This means that Djokovic wants to win 30+ slams.

Djokovic needs to continue to break records and reach numbers that no one in the future can hope to ever surpass.

I posted that.. Well, he thinks he will be competitive for at least 2 more seasons.

Nobody knows how long he will play, not even him.

If he's winning slams in two years, he will continue. If he is losing in 1st round every tournament by next year, he will retire.

No chance he will lose 1st round every tournament in a year..

Fedkovic are a class apart. Both oldest number 1s. Barring major injury Nole isn't stopping. And nolefams shouldn't doubt that as well.

I think he wants to play more than Federer. Novak wants to retire older than Federer. Novak is dethroned (almost because he still has RG and USO titles). There is too much talk about his retirement and Finnish passport. So he wants a comeback. Yeah, both Federer and Nadal had comebacks.

Why even bother? . Realistically no one is ever gonna catch him anyways. Maybe sinner has an outside shot but alcaraz is already breaking down physically. He has zero chance. Only sinner has a ray of hope but it will also takes health and luck for him to do it

He's not winning 6 more slams at his age. Utter insanity.

Why not? I'm writing off the Nardi loss as a fluke for now, and he got to the AO SF and lost to the eventual champion.

If he finds himself in another Final and the opponent is anyone but King Jann-Carlos, that trophy is his

If no one catches nole then why should he stop.

Make the target as daunting as possible so that only a madman like himself would dare challenge it.

It’s already daunting and impossible to catch LOL. He could risk getting a major injury that could severely impact him the rest of his life too. Probably better to get out now with all his joints in tact

He is not on the front lines of kiev fighting war.

Even if he gets a major injury, with the money he has, he will recover. Quickly.

No fear about this made up excuse.

There is literally no precedent of a tennis player getting so gravely injured it affected their quality of life just because playing too long.

Guys like Connors and McEnore and Lendl and Agassi and now even Federer and soon Nadal will all be very healthy after playing 1000+ matches.

While a hothead like Becker due to constant diving had major hip surgeries and is still not having major health issues because of this.

The injury scare is a big excuse. No pro needs to retire because of possible injury in the future.

Tennis isn't boxing or WWE where guys we're getting concussion and head trauma and commiting suicide. It's a non contact sport..

Federer's last singles match was the Wimbledon QF against Hurkacz, at age ~39y 11mo. After that, he was when he was effectively retired.

Djokovic would have to play until May 2027 to retire at an older age than Fed

Hopefully Sinner and Alcaraz put an end to Novak’s career, and anyone else in the ATP over 30. Stake to the heart kind of ending, like Novak did to Fed in ‘19. If this warrior plays 2 more years, it will happen.

I want to see him go down fighting though, but yes, needs to be eaten by the younger lions.

federer & rafa were still competitive until injuries did them in. novak is different in that we’ll just see him fall from grace:)

Djokovic couldn't even beat an extremely inexperienced (on grass) Alcaraz at Wimbledon...
And Djokovic played the worst match he can ever remember playing, at the AO vs. Sinner.
So how many slams will Djokovic win in the next 2 years? None.

Does that include this year or 2 yrs after this year? And I know it’s result dependant probably if he is winning slams etc but with Nadal on his way out in a few tournaments and having all the records the motivation will surely drop away

I hope he crushes those two and your dream.

Which losers fan are you Federer's or nadal's

I wonder if Djokovic will play two more years if he wins zero Slams in the future. My feeling is that he will retire sooner in that case - right now, he believes he will win more Slams and I wouldn’t bet against it.

If they like playing tennis and can play at a pro level why should he or Nadal retire?
It is a horrible lifestyle choice if you don’t need the money anymore - constant travel and being jetlagged, you are away from family a lot missing your kids growing up, go to the same cities over and over again, manual labor in the hot sun every day for many hours, unrelenting pressure if you are a big star to keep up results, media interviews almost daily, constant threat of injuries as you get older, stress of wondering if drug tests will reveal your PEDs use etc.
