18x20 tension

I'm using the Head Graphene 360 Speed Pro and am looking to string it up with a hybrid due to tennis elbow. I have RS Lyon and RS New York. What tension should I string it at?

String it at Max 45lbs. and check how it feels, then with next stringing go higher or lower, depending on how was it feeling.

I recommend being a little less subtle if you're trying to get some tennis elbow under control. Poly of any sort won't help a recovery nearly as much as using a softer string type. Dump it completely for the short term.

I'd say go as soft as you can with either a multifiber or syn. gut (or even a try with natural gut) for one or two rounds. Once your elbow is good and squared away, then consider experimenting with a semi-soft hybrid of some type, but not before you get back to healthy.

If full New York then, what tension? Around 52? And thanks for the feedback

I also have Diadem Evolution which is somewhat similar to Babolat Origin. Wouldn't that be an arm friendly hybrid too? Evo mains and NY crosses? 50/52?

A full bed of the New York would probably be a good start. The tension is a little bit of a guess because of a few things. I've generally only played tighter 18x20 string patterns in mids, but it looks like you've got that pattern in this frame with a 100" head. A dense pattern and smaller head (in a mid) usually means I'll use a thinner gauge of string at a tension that's not too tight. Your 100" head is a bit larger than a mid, so it might work with either a 16 or 17 ga. string, but that hoop size might play too flimsy at lower tension with a soft string.

I'd probably try it at 54 or 55 lbs. with a 17 ga. multi., but a 16 ga. alternative would be a little more inherently firm. So that 16 ga. could work at 52 or 53 lbs. Whatever feels "right" for you may take one or two stringings to sort out - feel is a tricky thing to predict - but the first stringing with a softer option will at least give you a reference tension to work with going forward.

I have no experience yet with strings like the Evolution and Origin, but it also looks like very soft stuff. You might get a few responses and suggestions for tensions with those if you start a different thread that specifically asks about them.

Thanks for the feedback man, I'm a newbie when it comes to this stuff so I appreciate it a lot

Any new set ups out there for the 18x20? Seems the more I play with the 18x20 the lower I could go on the tension regardless of whether it is full poly or poly/multi. 52/48 is about as low as I want to go with Gut/poly.

just as a recent point of comperason
I strung up tonight the Wilson ultra tour FB poly @40lbs
got to play a couple sets with it, felt great
18/20 pattern full bed poly at low tensions worked for me

Which poly string was it? Just got a couple ultra tours myself from the clearance sale.

That is a great price for that Ultra Tour. I’m at 45 with the 6.1 95 and headed lower. 18x20 has great control in the Wilson frames.

I used a cheapo poly pack I had "KELIST poly (yellow)", it was a shot in the dark (tensions wise), since ive been having issues with the tension and string on this racquet
my advise,,, use a poly you know and like and string it low!! 40lbs worked for me, maybe too soft for you?!

LOVE! LOVE! My Youtek Graphene Speed with Ashaway Liberty @ 50 lbs. I wiped the stringbed w/ lotion after play and no locked string bed.
