Nadal will never be 100% again. Much like Federer, you can see the spring in his step isn't there like it was in 2006. Luckily though, the new generation of players is very weak so the top guys still can win more Slams yet.
There aren't any new Nadals or Federers coming along in the foreseeable future. Maybe in the next 6-7 years, a new Nadal or Federer will come along and clean house. This generation...not so much.

Nadal is about at his best, I wouldn't look for much more.
He's still plays great and probably just won't have peaks quite as high as often as before.
He should have 3 good years left but no one really knows.
They may come up with some treatments for the knees and whatever else that ails him that work very well.

As for Nadal, he's doing pretty good. I'd say he's about 90%-95% consistently maybe more. And no, that extra 5% won't make a huge difference when it comes to his matchup with Novak IMO.

Well, he's played a total of 6 tournaments so far since he returned to the tour, made the final of all of them and won 4 of them! So that's pretty good going for a guy who's had 7 months away from a tennis court and is still playing himself back into form.
I'd say he's now at about 85-90% of his form. He looks to be getting better with each tournament he plays which is as it should be.

More like 75-80%. Seriously, go watch the 2012 Nadal. You are just a prisoner of the moment. I am sure you also thought Fed would start winning slams again after Wimbledon. And hes playing his worst tennis right now. Please sweat your brain about things that you can wrap your big brain around

Nadal is making WAY more errors than ever before. So obviously he's nowhere near 90%, regardless of the results. I think the only aspect that is better than 2012 is his motivation level. His hunger is winning him matches regardless of his form. I think skill-wise he's playing at about 70%, and I think he will strike the ball cleaner as time goes on. He'll win Roland Garros and Wimbledon because he's more hungry than the other top players right now.

Yes on my personal opinion and observation but then again so is yours.
Which was my point basically.
Nadal's current form is more than enough to handle the field on clay, however if Novak plays at his 2011 level (as he did in the 1st set in MC final) current Nadal (let's say 80% Nadal to make you feel better) will have no answers, question is whether Nadal will improve his form as we advance further into the CC season and whether Novak will be able to play at his 2011 level consistently (as we've seen once his level dropped in the 2nd set Nadal got very close to winning it).
This is all very interesting, according to you Fed fans couldn't make excuses for a 30 year old Fed in 2012 because he won IW but the same doesn't apparently apply to a 26 year old Nadal.

Oh it's certainly possible Steve thought Fed was gonna start winning slams again, but then again it is also possible he thought 2012 Wimbledon was/is Fed's last hurrah, either way we don't know.

I don't think we should underestimate the conditions in all this. So far the two clay court tournaments have been played in very unseasonal conditions. Wet, heavy conditions which clearly don't favour Rafa's game.
