2 overgrips instead of a replacement?

I was wondering who doesn't use replacement grips but just use two overgrips instead? I was thinking about it because it would probably help because you could feel the bevels a lot better.

That works and still provides enough cush for me to make using the racquet comfortable. Depending on the grip being replaced and the type of overgrips you are using it will also reduce the effective grip size. For the gear I use it drops the grip about one size.

Also, the original grip is probably going to have more mass to it that two overgrips, so the balance of the racquet will be affected. I'll weigh the two and add weight to compensate. Usually I'll have to add about six grams (two 6" strips of 1/2 inch lead tape added under the grips) to make up.

Yes. I always do that when I get a new racquet. I don't like the feeling of the original grip.

what overgrips do you use for this? would tourna work? and how often do you change the bottome one?

If you want to use Tourna for a layer of the grip then you should get all the stickiness out of the handle because if you replace your Tourna, you'll probably rip it off the handle, which will lead to leaving pieces of Tourna grip on your handle.

Using two overgrips would probably transmit a lot more shock to the arm as well.

This is true...

I usually take of the original replacement grip, and put on 1 wilson pro overgrip.

I have also tried a leather grip by itself, and with a very thin overgrip over the leather, this works well for increasing feel for the bevels.

I am going to get some yonex supergrap next and try that over the bare handle. Its a couple mm's thicker than wilson pro overgrip, so it should hopefully provide some comfort and help me avoid having to use 2 over grips

Tried this before. It felt too rounded and the edges were "poking" my hand, it didn't feel too good while hitting also

Just give it a try and see for yourself

I've once tried using 2 overgrips. However I didn't quite like it since the overlapping regions of both overgrips are not the same, hence the handle felt pretty uneven. Anyway, I don't like synthetic grip either since it's a bit too spongy to my liking.
