Monfils winning a slam. :lol: Granted the kid has some impressive athletic ability, but it cant come close to overcoming his unpolished tennis technique, complete lack of court smarts of any sense of how to construct points, and his general lack of consistency and focus.

Gasquet? I doubt it and Djokovic is already there. What about Gulbis? Djokovic trained with him and had some nice things to say in one of the interviews. I value that opinion.

It is nice to go back and look at the state of minds people had at the beginning of the year. Come the end of Decemeber someone definitely needs to make a new post like this. Technically, there were no real surprises this year. On the surface there were no real differences from last year. Fed took home three Slams, Nadal one, and the rest of the field licked up the scraps. But I think if you look closer this year looks like a forecast of a great 2008.

We have Djoko stepping up. While he did not win a Slam, he reached two semis and a final, beat Fed once, Nadal twice, and got two MS titles to show for it. And it is the titles and his #3 ranking that tell me this kid is for real, and not another Baghy.

But for all the fuss that was made over him, he still lost to the BIG TWO in all the Slams. Sure, he can plead injury and nerves for the last two, but these guys have shown that you cannot let those stop you from taking home a Slam trophy.
