Seriously dont hate me because I knew my hockey. If Buffalo hadnt gagged in game 6 I would be even greater.

And I should have known better of LA after Kopitar went down. Oh well thats what you get when you hate Joe Thornton and vote against him.

I triple-checked this one, Mav definitely has 41 points.

I checked it aswell and got 40 again ;) nevermind lol.

Whilst I was pleased to see Nashville get past the first round for the first time, I was really hoping to see the Ducks and the Canucks. Nashville are managed great and everything, but they are quite dull =/ I know the fans in Vancouver are still recovering from the epic against Chicago but even they found it tough to get into it with Nashville's defensive style and complete lack of offense.

My Detroit pick is the only one that is not happening. They better get their butts in gear if they wanna beat San Jose.

The other 3 picks I made are looking good. Maybe not the games but the winners. Nashville went in and took 1 of Vancouver. Thats all I hoped for from them to start. Its not easy to go to Vancouver and win even if they only take something like 14 shots.

Boston has looked much better. I guess that flu has passed. Philly takes crap for their goalies but its the defense that is the issue. To many opportunities given to the Bruins for the goalie to stop everything.

And lastly Washington is doing what Washington does. Looks amazing going in and just disappears. Wouldnt be shocked to see them make a series out of it but Tampa is flying right now.

I wouldn't be so sure, there have been some strange results and alot of one sided series' so far. I don't think anyone will come out of this round with too many points.

But I might get zero. Had the wings and Caps both winning. Caps already got swept and it looks like Detroit is done also.

But if the Canucks get one tonight Ill still be ok to make a late run I guess.

Im more or less just angry the Detroit cant stop the puck from going in the net. The guy whiffed a slap shot and it trickled into the net. What kind of luck do the sharks got right now.

But its also kind cool to see Niemi winning games. If Detroit cant come back (which they wont) then Im pulling for him to stick it to CHI for letting him walk.

Has a goalie ever won back to back Cups with different teams?

I'm disappointed I didn't back the Sharks more. Last year they got rid of the tag of being a great regular season team, whilst failing in the playoffs. They have more players stepping up like Pavelski, Setoguchi, Couture and Clowe, which has taken the pressure off Marleau, Heatley and Thornton (who's trademark soft hands have been brilliant so far). I actually backed them to make the Conference finals before the playoffs, it's a shame I didn't stick to that prediction.

I'm not sure if it's just me but the playoffs seem to be alot more defensive than it has in the last few. Last year for instance you had some great offensive teams like Chicago and Philadephia coming out on top, whilst the likes of Washington and Pittsburgh were going for it alot more. This time round all the talk seems to be about Washington changing their style, whilst Tampa Bay's 1-3-1 hasn't been figured out. Montreal in the first round adopted the trap against Boston which stopped them playing. It's certainly really interesting, but he swashbuckling play of the last few playoffs hasn't really been seen yet imo.

My reverse Jinx almost worked but Detroit couldnt quite get it done. Niemi played solid and SJ did what it had to do to win that game 7.

But can they ride that momentum into a victory over the Canucks in West finals?

I keep waiting for the Canucks stumble. Cant stand them or their green men.

I guess we can make the next round of picks seems we know the match ups.

San Jose over Vancouver in 6

Boston over Tampa in 5

Thats really sad. 28 yo players shouldnt die. The Boogie man was one the toughest players in the NHL and also one of the most giving off the ice. From what I read his brothers found him in his apartment. That has to be one of the worst things to ever find.

It always amazes me that the fighters in the league are the ones that care the most off the ice.

and I am back to hating hockey.

not a good way to start the series. Blown out completely. No Bergeron is a very bad thing.

Yeah, it's not looking good so far. My heart said Boston and i'm hoping they can turn it round to keep my wager alive :) But my head does say it will be Tampa Bay. I like San Jose in the other one too, if Niemi does what he has in the playoffs for the last 2 years and Joe Thornton keeps it up, I think they will have enough. I don't think it will be the final the people high up in the NHL will want, but that's my guess for the match up.

Back on track.

The rookie was a stud. Four points in one game. He saved the Bruins ass tonight and made the coaching staff look bad for benching him all this time.

Yup! Seguin, traffic in front, going hard to the net and shooting quicker on the powerplay made Boston look more dangerous than they have in the previous rounds.

That kind of game is what I think of when I think of the playoffs, was great to see it so open. So far too many teams have seemed nervous and underperformed, not to mention the traps and 1-3-1 etc.. Tonight was much more like it.

The Canucks look unstoppable right now. Since my Flyers are long gone (golf games should be dialed in by now - LOL!) I'm happy that one of the Canadian teams might drink from the Cup.

How 'bout the Thrashers moving to Winnipeg? I hope Bettman doesn't gum this up.

I just hope the reports about the owners wanting to stick with the Manitoba Moose name aren't true. For years the fans have been wanting the Jets back, to name the team the moose would be bad imo.

Im not sure how this working. Phoenix owns the rights to the Jets but I believe the NHL owns or is at least operating Phoenix so maybe they give it to them.

This league is not run by the smartest people in the world. They seem to enjoy beating their heads against the wall to try and force a product down the throat of people that dont care about it. Im sure there are a few Atlanta fans but not enough to support a franchise.

You could be right, i've heard it's the NHL who owns the rights, but it wouldn't surprise me if Phoenix were still involved somehow. I wouldn't think Phoenix would be against it though, they took the franchise away from Winnipeg so helping get the Jets back in the NHL would possibly be something they would be happy to help with.

I believe mav is right - PHO own the rights.

And he's definitely correct about the 'braintrust' leading the NHL - they aren't the sharpest crayons in the box. The only thing the NHL mgmt is awesome at is the instant replay.

Yes siree.. they look awesome. Real unlucky not to win the other night but the goalie stoned them cold.

The Bruins played a solid first period and then packed it in. Two periods of little to no effort equals going home 2-2 instead of up 3-1.

Hmm, i'm not so sure. I've read in quite a few places that it's the NHL who owns the naming rights, logo's etc...

Here's the trademark database which says the current owner is the NHL:

http://www.ic.gc.ca/app/opic-cipo/t...184&extension=0&startingDocumentIndexOnPage=1

There was also an article recently with a piece of interesting information..

The NHL owns the Jets name and logo and deputy commissioner Bill Daly had this to say in an email when asked if True North would have access to those trademarks.
"Haven't been asked and haven't considered," wrote Daly.

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/op...ion/columnists&id=122138284&viewAllComments=y

So it would appear the NHL took over the rights from the move, would be interesting to see if they were willing to hand them back, and if so would they want a cut of the merchandise sales.

West Coast Ace

G.O.A.T.
I would think the NHL would want the franchise to be successful - hard to believe they'd stick it to them. And Winnipeg isn't huge - it's going to be tough and require a lot of local support.

Doesn't the NHL get something off every sale of authentic apparel anyway? Being part of the league, as opposed to some independent traveling team, has to count for something.

Van - SJ in 30 min - hoping for a great game. Yesterday's TB - Bos game was wild.

I figured it would be like if a team went to Quebec they couldnt be the Nordiques as the Avalanche still sell those hats and jerseys. Same with the Whalers and Canes.

And yesterdays game sucked. It was one team learning that you cant coast through a playoff game after 1 good period.

Boston are a slow learning bunch, no? You think after last yr's fiasco against the Flyers they'd never let up. D'oh!

Gooooo Vancouver!!!!!!!
After taking some amazingly bonehead penalties in the 1st and surviving all the powerplays, they settled in and looked very good. Looks like their yr...

Interesting comment. I would think if this was correct that someone would have mentioned this small detail when talking about the Thrashers moving to Winterpeg. I have not seen any mention of this in the Winnipeg Free Press where they have been conducting a poll about what to name the team. Surprisingly Jets is not the runaway leader.

From a marketing standpoint they might take a name other than Jets so that the thousands of Jet sweater owners would be need to buy new team sweaters.

How do you even get into a situation for a 5 on three much less enough to let a team score 3 goals on 5 on 3 PP's. SJ just drops the ball in the playoffs. At least now its in the later rounds.

probably no consolation to a Sharks fan though.

At least the Thrashers are leaving ATL. Stupid Hockey town. Most of the US teams need to go back to CAN where at least the game will be appreciated more.

Way to go Bruins. One game away from Mav being up all night nervous for his team. These guys need to make these games less interesting and more steam rolling the other team.

So much for the stupid coin flip. Let that be a lesson, if you ever have a tough decision and need to flip a coin never flip a Bronze/Silver Tetradrachm from the Roman Empire.

It looks like its still anyone's game. Hoipefully TB can pull it out and I will still have a shot at defensing the title.

I did pretty badly in the last round so i've got no chance of winning, i'm sure Boston winning the cup and me some money will soften the blow a bit :)

Not sure who is winning proably Mav.

But I think the Nucks win this series in 5 games. Boston would not be right if all the teams in the city win titles after all that crying they did prior to the Red Sox.

Oh man!!!! This is going to be a tough choice. Canucks-have never won the championship, and the Cup gets to go home to Canada; but the Bruins are an Original 6 team and haven't won since the '70's (classic photo of Bobby Orr flying through the air). Hope it goes to 7 games.
