Can somebody compare this one to the 2012 BLX version in terms of comfort?

I love the BLX, but it is tough on my arm and shoulder.

Well, I just changed go a gut/poly hybrid.

It plays softer, but not as soft as I hoped, so it's still not very comfortable.

I didn't habe such problems with my head Speed MP or Babolat Pure Control, Pure Drive etc.

Okay, it wasn't the frame, it was me.

I'm doing some exercises for my shoulder, rotator cuffs etc. 3-4 times a week since the beginning of the year and my problems are gone.

Great frame!

Ordered two matched and as close to listed specs as possible and they came in at:

338g, 14 pts HL, and 280 SW

That seem right to you guys? I usually like mine around 6-8 pts HL strung, so I'm a little worried. Haven't strung em yet.

They should be 340g, 12pts HL

You can estimate the strung spec with the TWU customisation worksheet here: http://twu.tennis-warehouse.com/learning_center/customizationReverse.php
Just add 15 or 16 grams to about 21" above the butt cap and you can get a rough estimation of the strung balance and SW.

I've got three PS90s - one 2012 version and two 2014 versions.

Have to say that none of them are matched because of Wilson quality control being what it is, but I did notice (I could be wrong) that both the 2014 versions feel lighter, both in terms of static and swing weight.

My 2012 PS90 is 363g, and I've added no additional lead tape, although I've replaced the original leather grip when the black tape got old and started peeling, causing the leather replacement grip itself to unravel.

In terms of feel, the 2014 PS90 is much softer with a more muted feel, while the 2012 has a more stiff, "ping-y" feel. Despite this, I have bicep pains with the 2014 PS90, even though they're strung with VS Touch mains and ALU crosses, while the older 2012 one is strung full poly. The 2014 PS90 also feels less manoeuvrable than the 2012 version as well, despite a perceived loss in static and swing weight. Odd.

I really should be posting AFTER I measure the mass of my 2014 PS90s, but screw it, it's TTW. I can say what I like with absolutely no basis in fact

And that's the beauty of it! :)

I guess if there's ONE thing I learned from being on the GPPD section on TTW, it's this.

Edited my post with my impressions on the feel and manoeuvrability of the 2012 and 2014 PS90s, btw.

The 2014s should be pretty close to 355g strung.. that is one heavy 12' you have there.

Have to say, I like the weight. maybe the new replacement grip might have something to do with it.

But that does explain why I found the 2014s to be on the light side.

No way of knowing until I measure of course. I don't have an electronic scale at home that is accurate enough for this sort of thing, so it'll take a while.

Hi guys,

I have been playing with the PS95 (2013 and 2014 versions) and I absolutely love it. I use an L2 with a wilson leather replacement grip + 2 yonex supergrap overgrips mainly for comfort rather than the size issue. As the PS90 is being sold on the the "bay" quite cheaply (around £40 or $62) so I think might give it a try. The ps90 is a heavy racquet already so I don't want to increase its weight any further. I just want to ask if I should get an L3 and use 1 overgrip or an L2 with 2 overgrips as usual if the weight is neglegible.

Thanks.

Well an OG usually adds about a half grip size, so you should stick with your current setup.

But remember, you can influence it a bit by wrapping the OG loose or pretty tight.

Cheers mate. I was not sure if replacing the normal grip with the leather grip on the PS95 also increased the grip size or not? If it does, would it also increase by half a size?

Well, that depends on the particular grip.
Leather grips are usually a bit harder and not as soft as synthetic grips, so they won't squeeze very much.

But you can get both replacement grip types in various different thicknesses, so you should check that before.

Somewhere in this forum should still be the thread about almost every grip availavle including weight and thickness.

Many thanks for your reply. I have found the thread.

I am surprised that no one has commented on the thinner/lighter grommet and bumper set on the PS90 2014 compared to earlier versions, at least my K and BLX. I have ordered and recieved a new grommet set, to bring my PS sw op in the ballpark of my K and BLX.
Edit: And I am disappointed to see that the new grommet set I recieved is of the thinner/narrower PS90 2014 kind. People with older models should be adviced that their sw will drop a little if they change grommets, and I think I will drop TW a note about it.

After hitting with a Six.One Tour 90 for a large part of last year, I switched racquets this year, only to start hitting with the 90 again for the last week. Oh man, I've been missing out. Forgot about the sublime feel and precision. I'm ordering two 2014's tomorrow. Tough to beat the price on TW right now. Can't wait!

Great frame!

Having same problem here. It's not the poly, it's the weight. After 2 hrs of swinging it, I'll get upper arm pain for 2 days. What kind of exercise do you do?

Well, if I play for a long time or start serving at 100 % without doing some slow serves at first, the pain still shows up, but not as bad as it was and I keep doing my exercises.

Well, I'm doing a workout 3-4 times per week for my whole body and just added those exercises:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=d94PVrEhR5s

But you should maybe go see an expert first to check, if you are doing it right.

But this is it, external/internal rotation and so on.

I am doing 3 sets of 15 reps per exercise.
Takes 20 minutes and feels good.

I normally play with a fairly heavy frame (blade 93 2013) and i lately have put a more serious effort in trying out the PS90 2014. It's obviously a solid frame, but it's also very tough on my arm, after 30 min or so of hitting i often get pain in my arm and shoulder (and no, i do not play with poly mains). That being said, i must say i'm impressed with the kind of spin that can be generated with the ps90, and my bh slices are more dangerous than ever, even compared to my 93.

Upsides of this frame for me: great spin, control and feel. Nasty bh slices. Love the thin box-beam.

Downsides of this frame for me: way too demanding on my arm, top of the fame is dead space and has no plow at all. I somewhat dislike the white & red color scheme, the old 85 black look is much nicer.

Overall an excellent frame, just too demanding for my mid age arm.

Good John, i will get 2 tomorrow and we will see, tried it a few months ago with wrong strings for me and liked the blx90 better, but too tempting at such a low price, i agree about the color sceme not good and i remember it was a bit hard on my arm, but i normally use multis at 42lbs so i hope that helps.. Long live the 90s...

Ditch the 90. Your doubles opponent will complain that you're hitting too weak. *yawn*

Just joking. Anyone using this racquet without unnecessary comments from their *better informed* tennis buddies?

I don't use the 90 but I have a two regulars at my club who uses the 90: one using the N90 and BLX90, the other using the 2014 PS90. Both of them have played for years and hit solid balls without problem; tons of spin tons of pace. Nobody in my club comments about their racquet choice. Most other guys use 100 or larger, I use a 95 and a 97; no comments towards me either.

Have to say I love everything about this racquet. I find the feel and performance to be exceptional. I keep trying to get back into my IG Prestige MPs, and when I pick up the PS again, joy floods my heart and a resplendent halo crowns the racquet. I've been stringing it with many different gut hybrids, but 4G or Max Power at 50-53 lbs is my go-to now.
