A couple of the big Texas tennis associations (Dallas and San Antonio are the ones I am aware of) have been notified by USTA that ratings “could be out as early as a November 29.”

So I’m thinking Thursday night, as many have predicted. But I like the way it’s worded; it gives the USTA some leeway, unlike last year when they embarrassed themselves with the countdown clock.

Everyone that has more than 2 matches gets a rating.

All this can vary a bit by section and their rules, and there are a few obscure caveats, but anyone that plays at least 3 league matches during the past year will get a new C rating at the end of the year. Whether it is the same as the prior year or a bump up or down depends on the results, and it is possible to be bumped up or down with just three matches, and it is possible to play 100 matches and stay the same level.

If you play at least 3 tournament matches will get a T rating if your section calculates T ratings. Similar comment about what that T rating may be to above. If you play both league and tournament and your section includes tournaments, you'll get a C based on both sets of results.

They only do it when they think someone is cheating the system or way out of level. Unfair is subjective in such instances.

Also they can leave a note not to let the person get bumped back down, which allegedly happened to someone I know.

If someone is cheating sure. It has to be through a process and contacting the other person. I have someone who had complained about me and i was sick when I played and now I’m afraid I’ll get up because of this. I have no problem going up if it’s by the computer I’m only worried I’ll because of his Complain.

No, a player only has one rating. If they play in USTA League, they will have a C even if they play tournaments. If they play in a section that includes tournaments and play league, their C will incorporate tournaments. If they play in a section that includes tournaments and they don't play league, they'll get a T.

They aren't just going to take some random person's word for it and bump you up. You're fine. And if the complainant actually filed a grievance against you, USTA would absolutely contact you before taking action, assuming there was grounds enough for them to even take it into consideration. They don't just bump everyone that gets accused of something.

Got it! How do I see ratings? When I search a player, all I see is their tournament record.

You seem to be searching under the Rankings Search in the Tournament area of the website. You need to search under Find NTRP Rating Info in the USTA League tab.

Who knows. I've been predicting late in the day tomorrow, but the 29th starts at 12am EDT which is just 5.5 hours away so if the 29th is right, it could be that early. From past years though, everything doesn't seem to be fully automatic or go smoothly, so any gotchas or human intervention could move the time from when they plan to anyway.

That's my question, if we can't see NTRP ratings then how do we know what leagues we can play?

When the year-end ratings come out, the date next to your NTRP Level: #.# will change to 12/31/2018. It currently reads 2017 for those who received a computer rating at the end of last year.

This appears on either the USTA League or Tournament tabs of course only after you've logged into the system. Upper right corner of the page above the Help Center.

Failing that the system does not allow a player to register for a league which he or she is not eligible.

I have also sat as the executive director for my district and been on other sectional boards. A couple of years back at a district board meeting, a list of several players was brought to the group and we all discussed if any players should be moved up or down. We definitely had a say in a select few. Also there are a few positions in every district that has access to see exact ratings. I have visually seen them for myself.

How you stayed at 4.5 this year I'll never know. I think you had a much better year last year than the year you & I were bumped to 5.0 (was that 4 years ago?), and the really confusing thing was that the guy you played all 9 matches with at Sectionals and Nationals got bumped to 5.0. For almost everyone, it doesn’t matter. Almost everyone stays the same. Only a few ride the border of being bumped up or down. No one’s actual rating gets revealed, and there is no detail given. It’s much ado about nothing unless you are one of the few on the borderline between ratings, which I would estimate to be less than 5% of players.

you are saying your actual rating might be different than if you get bumped up or down or stay the same ? what is actual rating mean exactly ??
