Unless that player has achieved two GRAND SLAMS and a Dual Career GRAND SLAM, he still won't be Rod Laver, the True GOAT.
And to truly become the True True GOAT he must achieve that under the same weather conditions as the guy who did it, when he did it,... and on the same date, plus the stars in the sky must be in the same position as on that very day!

No, he just has to win two GRAND SLAMS.

It can't be that easy to achieve if only one male player has achieved it in the entire history of the sport. And no player has even achieved it once since Laver did.

Saying that, Djokovic is probably the only current tennis player on the planet that could achieve at least one GRAND SLAM. And if he were to do it, it would be very difficult to argue against him being the True GOAT.

LOL.

Here are the metrics for evaluating greatness in a Pro. Tennis Player in Modern Times ...

Number of Weeks at #1 Ranking.
Number of Major Singles Titles achieved.
Mix of Major Singles Titles achieved.
Dominance of a specific Major Singles Tournament.
H2H Record against widely recognised major competitor(s)
Number of GRAND SLAMS
Number of Career GRAND SLAMS
Number of Roland Garros / Wimbledon Singles Titles achieved in Same Year (ie Channel SLAM)
Number of Year End #1 Rankings achieved.
Number of Different Masters 1000 Singles Titles Achieved.
Number of Masters 1000 Singles Titles Achieved.

Knock yourself out ... but by pretty much every Metric described above ... Djokovic will probably Retire from the sport on top of all others, except for Laver with regards to GRAND SLAMS and Borg with regards to Channel SLAMS.

If GOAT Status was based purely on "Nice Guy", Laver would win that comparison just ahead of Federer. Even to this day, Laver is a nicer guy than Federer.

Novak, Thiem, Shap, Felix & Dimitrov will be there.

Tsitsipas, Med & Z seem like safe bets but could easily sputter put behind guys like Sinner, Fritz, Minaur, etc.

Have a feeling guys like Coric, Pouille, Popyrin make some strides too.

I don't like Rublev, seen him up close quite a bit and he's a B.

Originally I had Novak at No.4. But then I thought, really, he is going to play in five years time? I think once he breaks the record for slam tally, he'll be off, and I think he'll do that within three years.
Really? About Rublev? What did he do?
I can see it with Popyrin. Coric, I don't know. He's just unlucky with injuries.

Most represents who exactly? Are you lazy or just sloppy so you can not put it together correctly?

Serious question: what makes you so sure that Nadal and Djokovic won't be in the top 10 at year-end in 2026? They will be 40 and 39, respectively, so I suppose it's probable that they won't be at the very top, but why wouldn't they be in the top 10?

I'll be honest and say I am not sure at all. I did put Djokovic in at No.4 originally, but then moved him as I kind of wanted a non big 3 thread lol. But I could see him still being there.
I don't think so with Nadal. I think he'll want to retire and bring up kids once he's got 23.

I am not sure that either he or Djokovic will retire while the other is still contending for majors. I think Nadal has every chance of contending at Roland Garros in 2026. I can see him at that age going the whole hog on his prioritization of clay and only playing Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros. Maybe he'll play Wimbledon and the US Open, too, just for kicks.

If he were to be on such a reduced schedule, perhaps he wouldn't end in the top 10 even if he still did pretty well in the events he did play. Although if he swept three of the clay events again, I'm sure he'd be top 10 even without playing the rest of the year.

I could see it happening. Please don't tell me you think they will still be in the top ten if I do a 2031 thread. I need to move on from them!

I also would like a change, but I'm not sure. I am 100% serious that I think Nadal could challenge at Roland Garros at 40-42. 44/45 might be a bit of a stretch, but who knows? I don't think Djokovic has quite the cushion over the field in Australia that Nadal does on clay, so assuming the same percentage decline, he wouldn't be as competitive at 40-42. On the other hand, I can imagine Djokovic being competitive on hard courts and grass at 38, but Nadal only being competitive on clay by that age.

I better prep myself then. I need a new sport. Does figure skating count?
Ok, if they are still around and winning, I hope at least some of the newer guys are also winning, say USO, Wimbledon.

Note: I definitely don't think that Nadal and Djokovic will dominate in their 40s. I think Nadal might be competitive at Roland Garros, and perhaps Djokovic might be competitive in Australia, although I'm not sure about that. As far as domination goes, I expect that by this time in 2023, we'll have some new major champions. It will probably happen this year, although obviously Nadal will probably win Roland Garros and Djokovic is firm favorite for Wimbledon.

Ok. Noted. Personally, I want Rublev or Shapo to win USO but it'll probably be Meddy or Tsitsy. Still, new faces holding slam trophies will be warmly welcomed.

LOL. I don't have to elaborate. You have access to the entire Internet so go find out for yourself instead of debating it here. You might also want to spend some money purchasing the plethora of Tennis Magazines, following many of the Tennis podcasts, or even subscribing to Tennis related Sports Streaming Service to enlighten yourself.

Good Luck.

Can you imagine if the BIG 3 are still in top 5 :D. Or at least Fed in top 10. All the other player will be proclaimed useless.

He reminds me a lot of Safin, another player with insane talent and very few weaknesses besides consistency.
Boy, I can’t see one thing similar in Shapo’s game to Safin. Literally nothing. Safin was an extremely solid baseliner who made few UE’s. He was consistent, unlike Denis. He also had a huge serve. Shapo has none of that.

I just meant they're similar in their aggression and ability to do anything with the ball when they're on. Shapo does have a very solid serve too, although granted it's nothing like Safin's bullet of a serve.

Also, Safin made few UE???

For me the Most important records

01. Most Laureus Sportsman of the year awards (tennis player vs other sportsmen in an year)
02. Max money earned in the career (endorsements of non retired player are a direct indication of who is considering the best by the crowd).
03. Most Slams
04. Most WTF Titles
05. Most weeks at 1

Masters 1000 cannot be taken seriously since grass doesn't have any, so it is not balanced. Even H2Hs cannot be taken seriously unless players are of the same generation.
