He better finish the season as world number 1, he deserves it after another magnificent year.
He has been the most consistent and regular by far.
:)
I don't think he will get it though. Looks like Djokovic is ready to win all tournaments, even 500 level.

Lol, if you didn't watch the matches then you can at least check the stats.

Standard 30-35% UEs with quality of shots and defence being clearly less than what peakdal (and all Big 3) were once capable of, winning with similar UE %, and Nadal amazingly giving away the third set from a winning position.

Mugzeit allows Big 3 to keep vulturing well below their best, sad.

Lol ok, I know your year was rough. You can try to stop the party all you want. Meanwhile.....

Fed dominated for years on end, put in all that work, got to 40-15 and still the hungry bull is just 1 slam behind. I know the shock is fresh :p

You mean that even Fed fans will leave ?
Reminds me of Rocky IV when Apollo Creed is saying how people care about you when you're in the ring bleeding but once you step out of that ring, you're ancient history.
I'd imagine something similar once these 3 guys have left the game. People will just move on. A lot of people on here were never really actual tennis fans. They were just fans of their guy. You know you're not a fan of a sport when you're praying that your guy gets the absolute easiest road to a title. That's what you see on this forum and other forums. Just fanatics cheering on their guy and not giving an eff about anything else. That's probably what seperates the fandom in tennis to other sports. In other individual sports like boxing or UFC, you want to see your favourite guys fighting the best in the world. In tennis, fanatics on here want the complete opposite and get excited when their guy can avoid facing any real threats en route. Just like the Nadal fans are cheering about Novak's shoulder injury or Federer's loss at Wimbledon. And same thing when Federer fans see a clear path to the title. I guess that's just how it is. I can't imagine these same fans sticking around for the sake of tennis.

That's actually a great choice of .gif because McEnroe never won another major after playing one of the greatest single seasons in tennis history (1984).
No offence but McEnroe never won a Major again as his 84 loss to Lendl at FO festered in him and he never got over it despite the W and USO 1984 wins. He admits this in his Serious book..that loss stayed with him well over a decade.

Nadal has no such baggage. Neither does Djokovic. Nadal already is way beyond his wildest dreams and he will certainly win another FO. He could win another 3 as Thiem is probably physically going to wane slightly now he mid 20s and Djokovic already looks like he struggles in slug fests on higher bouncing courts and outside those two there is nobody even close to Nadal on clay over 5 sets. Unless there is a young player around who is in the 15 to 16 year age bracket who is another Nadal i really cannot see how Nadal doesnt get 2 more FOs.

And ive a feeling he gets one more USO. He will likely overtake Federer and stay ahead of Djokovic but fail to overcome Court.

That USO win was massive for Nadal. It takes alot of pressure off every FO from now on has he has shut down for ever the Claydal taunts. Next year i fancy him to possibly go for an unbeaten clay court season.

I dont know any Nadal fans cheering when Djokovic shoulder went and i dont know any Djokovic fans who cheered Nadals knee injury last year. I dont see much baiting between the fanbases just an acceptance of how great the other guy is.

The problem is with Federer fans who have always trash talked Nadal djokovic and Murray. However this is also not unexpected as in other sports what is always the biggest irritant for an ATG and fans is when a younger player comes along and steals their thunder and knocks them off the perch. It is a different feeling to when two ATGs go at it at the same time. Fans sort of get used to the rivalry as its always been there. Its alot harder to accept when after a long period of dominance someone comes and takes the mantle.

Personally i never see any path as easy. If a player makes Major QF onwards they are tough as they are in form and have won alot of matches. Where luck of draw comes in is in early rounds and sometimes one top guy could get a couple of qualifiers whereas another may get a player ranked way lower than their ability due to injury issues etc who is back in form.

So true. Although I never been fan of boxing, I understand what you meant to say.

Still feels amazing. The more I think about it, the more I appreciate this year’s US Open actually. It has its place among the best Slams since the beggining of Nadal/Federer renovation in 2017, though haters gonna hate. The set up of Medvedev as a villain through NA hc season and their rivalry with Nadal in Toronto is just so good from story telling point. Also there were some decent and unexpected back stories such as Dimitrov’s rise from the ashes, Shapovalov’s way with Youzhny, Federer fighting with his 40-15 demons and so on.

Toronto was epic af, and we had no idea how IMPORTANT that match probably was in those first 2 sets in the USO final. Medvedev being turned face by the crowd in the 3rd set was something straight out of a movie lol

It was the perfect follow up to Wimbledon.

You mean to 40-15?

Crazy how at the moment Fed was serving for it, he was seemingly a point away from forever sealing his GOAThood and somehow a few weeks later it's all up in the air with slams coming next year and Nadal having a realistic chance at all of them. Fed will be too old to stop Nadal at Wimby next year, and Djokovic is due an early exit.

You guys are too absolute in your judgement, fed lost many 40-15's but as much as you remember them, he does more.

History is more than the number of titles someone wins. No one remembers rafa's french open runs, but fed losing a couple match pts will never be forgotten :)

No one will remember Rafas French open runs?
I know millions that do that. Who are you to speak for all people? You can only speak for yourself.

It's been a while now, can't say I think and look back anymore. But it was definitely one of the most satisfying wins in the moment.
