I see you've failed to notice I wasn't being proud, but merely having a bit of a go at Rafa - well done :D

Ok my bad. But there are Rafa fans around here who might have said exactly the same thing as you did, while being 100% serious. Sometimes hard to make the distinction.

sure, no problem. I would presume you knew me a bit by now, but there are many posters to keep track of

I only looked at your post, not at the poster's name :) Otherwise I would have known you were not one of those *********s like Vero or TC.

This is an impressive stat, but seriously, I don't think many people care. Time spent at No. 1 probably is the only relevant one about rankings when talking about GOATs, I guess.

Looks like Fed will get this record given that he seems a lock for top 3 till end of year. 20 more weeks needed at top 3 to get the record

Very impressive that he is also top at weeks at top 2 and top 3, as it is almost 3 years since he dropped out of No 1 and is 34 years old

That would be awesome if he gets it. No player dominated tennis like Federer. Goat status.

Federer's standing alone records: most slams, most slam finals, most slam semifinals, most slam quartersfinals, most slam semifinals in a row, most slam quarterfinals in a row, most slam appearance in a row, most wins at slams, most weeks at number 1, most weeks at number 1 in a row, most weeks at top 2, most WTFs, most WTF appearances, most wins at WTF, most years with at least 1 title, most prize money, most wins over top ten, ...

I need to stop for holding my breath.
The only record that matters is the slam count and being #1. The rest are not even considered a real record. People don't care about how long you've been #3 or #10 or how many times you reach quarterfinals..

They all come into play if achievements are close enough.

If Rafa gets to 16 majors, one has to weigh in other factors as well, just like how we do now comparing Pete with Rafa

Pete should not even be in comparison with Rafa. They come from different eras with different conditions and equipments. The only comparison we can make is between Federer and Nadal. They are rivals competing in the same era.

It's true that #1 is the most important, but to hold both records at #2 and #3 goes to show how far he's ahead of everyone. Other records are important too, because it measures consistency and level of domination. Federer 24 consecutive wins in the final, Nadal 81 consecutive match wins on clay, or Borg's 3 Channel Slam are records that will unlikely never be broken. Tennis experts take these incredible feats to evaluate the players in all time great.

He's about to go 12 seasons as year end Top 3. Here's how awesome that is:

Most Top 3 Year End Finishes

Federer: 12
Connors: 12

Sampras: 9
Lendl: 9
Djokovic: 9
Nadal: 9

^ This + 1......along with.....hmmmm, let's make up another (useless) category: let's see, how about "most straight set wins without having to go to a tiebraker versus left-handed players not named Nadal on overcasts days while wearing red kicks" ....pleeeeezzee...

Federer's brillance speaks for itself. And his imperial standing isn't in need of a "Wikipedia scholar" or a tennis wannabe's sanctioning; such over-the-top minutia is but the cheapened grist of the insecure fanboi.

Fed's current top-of-the-mountain stature, his sterling legacy which will be recognized and appreciated by true tennis fans for generations to come deserve better than mere fanboi posturing (not to mention his personal dignity).

17 majors, an almost infinite 'streak ranked #1 - period. No need to get overly categorical....it's silly. . .

HAIL FEDERER .............. fail fanboi

That is all. ........end facetious rant : )

Dedan's, this is not some trivial record.

Being top 1 for 302 weeks is good, but being in top 3 for 600 weeks i.e 12.5 years is by no means 'yet an other stat'.

One does not dominate a sport for 12-13 years, unless his name is Federer

What about his nose? Or left arm? Do you think these things hold him back in the GOAT conversation?
Nah, he clearly has the GOAT nose. His left arm is a weakness though. It explains his troubles with Nadal FH to his BH. The weight difference with his right side is so big that every movement to this backhand is like a lunge that almost makes him trip, therefore losing his footing. All he needs to do is gain muscle on his left arm and he'll be so super balanced that he'll return every Nadal serve/FH to his backhand for an easy winner down the line. H2H will revert, 27-23 for Fed and a 14-13 record on clay for him as well.

This. When you're leading or nearing the top of so many records, even the humblest feats become meaningful.
