A $300 Bosworth for only $49.99

The Bosworth 210 for $49.99 seems like the same racquet as the Martina Navratilova custom racquet for $300. Fox sports says its basically the same frame but lets put it to the test:

It's not the same racquet, as far as I know. It has the same head shape but is an older design. And, the new one is customized for players.

The pink/black model here may be a larger head than the 90 sqin model in that Fox link. Isn't that what SM means in the model here? Super Midplus?

I wonder what the weight of the racquet is, as well as the balance point.

nope they are both 96 inches....I had it checked out . The weight and balance points etc etc are printed in my very first post above.

When I watched a couple of her matches at the Aus Open about 2 years ago, I didn't remember her racquet being a widebody like the Bosworth 210.

Exactly. The big difference between Martina's frame and the one sold here at TW is the beam width. The one Martina uses is not a widebody like the Bosworth Collection frame for $49.99.

do you have the measurements of the two beam widths? What makes you think either of them are or are not widebodies?

Unfortunately, the angled Fox is stupid-wide, very stiff for its headsize. I owned the maroon Target 210, and for a 90, the beam width was like 26 mm - too much for me. Also, if you compare the angles on the current Boz to his angled Fox bats, the angles today, particularly the bends in the throat, are much more pronounced than on the Foxes of yesteryear.

widebody is really based on beam width of the racket's cross section ? That racket looks like 26..28 mm beam width to me. Remember, this "widebody" description is also relative to the technology at the time, and "widebody" rackets were less common then.

What are you trying to say? That frame was around during the widebody craze, is described by TW as a widebody, and it's clear from the pictures that anybody in their right minds would consider it a widebody. As Colpo says, it's stupid-wide. The Martina Bosworth is certainly not stupid-wide.

I actually bought the 210 S from tennis warehouse and just received it. Truthfully it does not seem any wider than my Babolat.

The 210 you are talking about is different than this one. this is the 210 S...it makes a world of difference.

Besides ...how wide is Martina's racquet?

Martina's racquet is quite different - box beam and about 20mm. It is also pretty heavy. We have one here somewhere. It's very much a player's racquet and more racquet than I'd want to swing.

The racquets are completely different.

The Bosworth racquets are completely custom made to your personal spec, color and grip shape. So I would much rather play with the custom racquet as I could have suited to my exact specifications - they will even match the color of your favorite socks if you send them a sample.

Hmmm...food for thought. But for us guys without the funds for a custom racquet please answer the question.

You said that the navratilova racquet was too heavy...therefore whyich racquet would you rather play with...the Navratilova one or the one on sale here at TW???

I used the 210 many years ago. It is not the same as the Navrat stick. It is a widebody as someone pointed out. Also very powerful. Not really a players racquet. I paid about $20 new at a major sporting goods chain store because the racquet was discontinued. This was 15-years ago.

Attila,

Looks like Chris answered your question before I got back to this thread; He knows more about these frames than I do, and the information he gave agrees with what I read somewhere (I don't remember the source) that Martina's frame has a 20mm box beam. You can also tell just by looking at photos that Martina's racquet is not a widebody. The one sold here at TW definitely is.

The 210 has an Aerobeam with a width of 27.5mm
The Navratilova racquet has a box beam of 21mm.

I found the Navratilova racquet. It has a strung weight of 13 ounces and a swingweight of 371. As I said, too much stick for me. Much respect to Navratilova.
