A Different Perspective on Paintjobs

So much chat about who is using what racquet
Somebody here mentioned that newer racquets=more money for the company....possibly,
But here is another perspective....push the old sticks and let the pros use them without paintjobs. Whats more impressive: some ncoded [k] thing of the season.....or......a stick used by edberg, courier, evert, sampras, graf and federer...(I might not be entirely right on that list, but theres more). How many slams with that pro staff? Thats more impressive than a stick with stupid "aerodynamic" holes in it. Or maybe a stick used by chang, andre, seles...coria etc etc. If racquet designs are good for 20+ years then companies can push them with 20+ years of titles. Just my .02

Youre actually right! What a great incentive for selling a racket.....its been used and still used to win grandslam titles after 20 years! You know youre buying something good then! However i think the companys reckon they will sell even more rackets promoting some new crap technology and making people believe that thats what the players are using.......

Thats how it was in the wood days. You didn't have a ton of racquets like we do now, where a company would come out with a new model every year, replacing the old one. You had the Dunlop Maxply's, the Jack Krammers, the Donnay All Woods that stuck around for several years and were the workhorses.

This is an interesting point. However, the companies sell mostly to people who do not populate boards like these.

Casual players don't care much about pj's or who is using what< they just want a stick thats comfy and easy to use. Therefore a 14oz/360g racquet that works in the hands of Grand slam champions would not be a good option.

I play 3 times a week, and play (3rd/4th) team tennis for my club, but I like a 300g racquet, so for me all the new technologies help, although I am a real tennis geek.

For those enthusiasts who still prefer 'old school' sticks , the manufacturers still make the heavier ranges and if you must have something 10/20 years old have a look at one of those auction sites.

It would not be economical for the big co's to bring out 'heritage' ranges because the sales would just be too small, sorry!

they the racquet companies cant sell you one of those classic frames any more like the pro staff or the prestige classic, why it costs too much to manufacture them there in a totaly different category of qaulity construction, to know what i mean try hitting with a prestige classic or and original pro staff and then hit with a micro gel or k blade then you will know. Every frame out there on the shelf today is JUNK! its just a few fancy words, a nice looking paint job and the CHEAPEST materials they can get there hands on. At the end of the day there profit margin is what they look at and its much much higher with todays garbage models, why do you think that 90% of pros use paint jobs??????????????????? its self explaintory. Its so sad that it had to come to this!
