Adidas Stycon Laceless Tennis Shoe

Anyone heard about this new model Adidas is bringing for 2020? "Adidas Stycon" which apparently is a laceless tennis shoe. I really like to see how it turns out. I like the idea of laceless when in a hurry to hit the courts after work. But at the same time a bit skeptical to see whether it will hold good for an activity like tennis.

Let us wait and see how Tsitsipas does with this shoe in Australian open in January 2020.

Is there any other laceless Tennis shoe attempts you guys heard of?

Apparently this is what made Adidas lead to laceless design for Tsitsipas. That never happened to me, I am just lazy.. :) . So..... I will wait and see.

I googled it and it led me to an amazon page in Spanish but the product was titled “adidas: Stycon Boa Tenis para hombre”. There was no image available however. But I’m assuming since the shoe is laceless, adidas will use the Boa system, as used I believe in one of the adidas trail shoes. I know for sure New Balance has used it in the FuelCore Sonic, and I tried them on and it was pretty easy to tighten.

Thanks for this info. I haven't used FuelCore Sonic. But from youtube I got an idea about its design. May have to wait for couple more weeks before the actual images come out of the Adidas.

^^ there will be no boa system on the shoe. Also Adidas has been doing laceless shoes in other sports like soccer and basketball for some time so I would guess it's more them looking to roll this out across all sports rather than the specific Tsitispas incident

No, that isn't/wasn't it. Shoes (especially radically new designs) are developed well over one year in advance.

Very aggressive approach by Adidas. I am not discouraged, but would wait and see. Also seems like Nike went very aggressive with its Zoom Cage 4 as well. The wait is almost over, we will see them in retail in a few weeks.

Much more important: Will there be another Ubersonic 2 in 2020? The best shoe ever! A. Zverev has played a new model in the last few weeks against Roger...

They reintroduced it just recently. It wouldn't make sense to stop producing it again so soon.

Why do people think that adidas came out with an entirely new shoe in less than a year just because a single one of their stars was breaking his laces ?
It gives me the sense that people are really searching here on this forum...

for what it’s worth, shoe companies have engineering and design teams that research, test, and collaborate on prototypes and test models for *years* before anything remotely resembling a product sees the light of the consumer‘s day. And especially a shoe as unique as this one, was not pushed out in less than ten months.

plus, these designs have been posted on the forum dating back to the first half of 2019. Many people have seen this already. They were not made in response to Stef tearing his laces lol. come on people lol

literally laughing at the notion that a global sportswear company would respond to a person tearing their laces with “ok well guess we should get rid of the laces.” Lmaoooo

Have you by any chance seen the Adidas Fall range?

If you read the description, it states, "...the Infi-Knit technology hides the laces under a protective mesh casing ..." Hence, the shoe has a traditional lacing system. Watch the TW video if you need further details on its implementation.

I don't understand why people are talking with authority about things they definitely don't know. They are misguiding anyone that reads their words and takes them at face value.

Wow, cool. I didn't know that, I only remembered this shoe showed no laces. Now I know, thanks.

I have no idea about the in and outs of the tennis shoe business. So I believe you.

But in the business I work, we may have 100 successful researches (some of them takes many many years to get to success), but only a couple of them get to see production, and most of them are saved/shelved. And of course the business necessity, return of investment and customer need are the top priorities to see production.

So could it be that Adidas found a "customer need" only recently even though the research was all done well ahead?

That was one of the first premium tennis shoes that I can remember that showed no laces. It's deceptive. Nike then came out with their gloved Vapors. Same idea - cover up the laces for a different look.

I've got BOA + straps on on some bike shoes and it works pretty well

Ok so I tried on a sample Stycon. I am going to buy them when they release. The sole is extremely stiff, you could get tons of rebound power to help recover wide balls. The upper is an absolutely glove. It completely conforms to the foot and feels amazing. I'm a long time Nike user (since CB2.3) and this is the best feeling shoe I've ever put on. And it is really hard to get on and off, but I don't care because it feels amazing.

It's like a dual sock material that doesn't feel like it would stretch out over time. Bounce cushioning throughout, full herringbone thread, but its thick.

I'm stoked for the release.

Well, if you've ever worn dress shoes, you'd know how to operate a shoehorn, so it shouldn't be rocket surgery.

The worse issue is that 12,000 Russian Rubles converts to $193 US. Not that it's a direct correlation between currencies or markets.

Still interested, though in a different colorway.

rocket surgery.

Saw what you did there! :-D

Look I wanna try these, despite the odd looks.

By comparison, after initially not liking the SoleCourt Boost... I grew to like them on... hardcourt. Though I do realise the Stycon has a Bounce sole it looks basically the same material (Adiwear?). And that works well on hc.

Is this thing going to stay being named Stycon???

They look clean and modern. It reminds me of the nike's laceless soccer boot (and by that I mean boot looking) that CR7 was promoting few years back. Only the adi shoe is rather porky looking compared to the football shoe.

I don't understand how anyone can comment on the fit and sizing of a shoe that no one has tried as of now. Also, it is laughable to talk about "Adidas shoes" as though they all fit the same. The Ü2s have a narrow/medium narrow fit, so talking about all Adidas shoes being wide is just misinformation (which plenty of people around here doesn't seem to mind to spread). This is the second time I make that remark in that thread, which should tell some people that what they are doing is noticeable and unwanted. We are here to help each other, not to misinform the others (be it out of willingness to pitch for brands or because they want to feel important).
