goodmorning!

i need to make a choice, its between the Pro's Pro v888/stringway MS200/Em450.

the 450 is double the price of the other two.

now, what is exactly the advantage of the electronic machine. cause i have been in contact with Stringway and what they say is that the mechanical MS200 is the best choice.

but why schould you choose for the electric one than?

any advice?

Greetings.

I'm in the same position myself and trying to decide. Woul be quite a while before I could afford the electronic and trying to work out exactly what makes it worth double!

If the automatic drop-weight mechanism is as easy and accurate and simple to use as Stringway claims, then honestly I'm not sure either.

Only thing I can think of is that the electronic may be a bit faster. But honestly, I don't know that it would be significantly faster.

Perhaps it is a bit simpler to use as well... but I have no idea -- never used a Stringway (heard good things though).

The pro's pro v888 tension unit and base looks identical to the Signum Pro X9500 - which I have used and wasn't overly impressed with. The tension head wouldn't pull tension when the diablo was used, the gripper would often not grip the string and a couple of times the tension head would release tension before you had time to clamp the string. Either the unit I tried was a Friday afternoon special or the electronics are a bit duff!!! I wasnt impressed with the clamps either, but the V888 looks to have a different table to the signum.

As regards Stringway, I used an early MS200 and it was great, although i'm not sure how exact its constant pull claim is. I guess the electronic is there because some people just want electronic (i've been seduced by this too!) and it presents a better image to the customer in certain settings.

Thanks Ash (again!) So realistically the jobs done by the MS 2000 and the electronic are fairly similar? Hardly seems worth double the price at that rate?

Ya thats my dilemma! Why bother paying double for minimal or no difference. Seems that the MS200 is allegedly even more accurate than the electronic. Not even sure why the electronic would be faster! Would love to give both machines a test run!

I did some research before i got my stringway (being sold by laserfibre back then), and someone on this board did a test on the tension accuracy of the stringway mechanism, and it was very accurate.

I've had mine a few years and have strung on cranks, and I believe the stringway is a tiny bit faster because you don't have to be as consistent letting down the weight as you do pulling the lock-out.

hope that's useful.

I'm actually here lurking the boards wondering if there's some new cool machines out there that I can't afford. :)

I know the feeling!! My budget has been slowly creeping up with each thread I read :) Any idea on the LF/SW electronics?

electronic luxury or mechanical simplicity

Hi guys,
I may be of some help in this threat because I own the EM450L for quite some time and also used the MS200 on an occassion..

I think the differences between both machines are the convenience and some luxury items of the EM450L which are very useful.
- Setting the tension is easier and more accurate, you can adjust it at 0,2 lbs accurate.
- The build in Tension Advisor, that calculates the right tensions for every racquet and for different players (stiffnesses) is fantastic. You never have to doubt about tensions.
- The calculation of the string length that you need is helpful.
- The Concorde system makes it easy to pull tension on the strings through the bridge without friction.
- The leds show that the string is still stretching.

The difference between the MS and the EM is certainly not in the speed and not either in the accuracy of pulling.
The MS will be faster if you want, because it pulls tension as fast as you let the pedal go. BUT you have to realize that the speed depends more on the string. When you clamp too fast you will loose tension because the string is still stretching.

The Constant pull accuracy of the MS is better it is a straight line, because it functions simply on keeping balance between the force of the drive spring and the string.
Compensating for little losses is more difficult for the EM450.

So overall:
- The difference is not in the quality or speed of the string job but in the extras that the EM450L has.

Than you for your insight!

In short, if I took your machines away and money wasn't really an issue which machine would you choose?

If money was not an issue I would certainly take the EM450. The tensioner works very smooth and the extras are very handy to have.
It is so easy to just enter the racquet and the desired stiffness into the machine and the machine calculates the right tensions for mains and crosses.

You do not have to worry about the right difference in tension for mains and crosses either.

But I know that there are a lot of MS200 owners who love their machine for the speed, consistancy and convenience of use for a mechanical CP machine.

You can find some threats in the archive of this forum that tell you about it.
