Age 18+ adult league drops 2nd singles court - why and how?

You are right, but the solution, at least from the perspective of a singles player, is simple: Stop playing USTA. Instead, get the contact info of the players interested in singles, and just arrange your own hits. That's what I do, and I am playing more and better tennis than I ever did when my focus was on USTA play. I don't need the validation of a formal USTA record or rating, I just want to play against other similarly-skilled opponents. USTA is a good way of making those contacts, but once you have them...

Yes I already formed a singles group and I am playing singles with them. I think USTA is helpful when you want to play singles (or doubles) against people outside your local town.

And everything you say applies to doubles as well. That's why very few tennis players in my area are interested in USTA.

i think giving 2pts to 1d sucks. puts less value on the rest of the team. for 40+ they should have 2 singles or get rid of singles
and play 3 doubles like the old folks.
hopefully in 18+ they keep the 2 singles

In my area one of the leagues is also doing the 1 singles 3 doubles format but will revert to 2 singles 3 doubles for districts, sectionals, nationals. They said it was because they don't have the courts available this year.

Just brainstorming, so this may be a terrible idea, but if the reason for this switch is because of court availability, then why not just keep the 2 singles lines and just have them each play a 1-set match, back-to-back on the same court? Then you can avoid the 2-2 match results and give more players chances to play league singles. Not ideal, but maybe a decent compromise?

In our local leagues that use the 1-3 format, team standings are determined primarily by total courts won in the season; team match wins and losses are irrelevant. That’s how they avoid the “tie” issue.

In our 40 over team we continue to do 2 singles but when we advanced to playoffs last year it was 1 singles. Absolutely hate that a 2-2 comes down to a tiebreaker to decide winner of match. Makes no sense.

Maximizing profits. Going from singles to dubs for a court doubles the income for the facility for the exact same space. This is why many cities are pushing to promote pickleball, because you get to double it again fitting two courts on one tennis court, and then promoting dubs again. Singles tennis is one of the less profitable when looking at participation return per land/facility cost.
It's unfortunately all about making money now.... this is happening with junior tennis tournaments as well where directors get to randomly say... lets play sets to 4 with no ad and a 10pt breaker for the third.

2023:
Set 1 will be a coin flip
Set 2 will be rock, paper ✂️
Set 3 will be a determined by most followers on a pre-determined social media platform.
