Ah yes, another "new stringer" thread. Please help?

I need a stringing machine for a few reasons:

My tennis coach is extremely unreliable when it comes to stringing. He can either string the racquet within 2 days, or 2 weeks.

I could drive to G o l f s m i t h, but then I'd waste money on gas, manual labor, AND have to wait more than a week to get my racquet back. That's no good.

I'm NOT a string breaker. I like using Kevlar/Synthetic Gut hybrids, so that usually lasts me about 2 months. At the worst, I'd go through a set in a month. I don't intend on stringing for other people whatsoever. I don't necessarily look forward to stringing my own racquets, yet I hate not playing for a week because I'm waiting for someone else to do it.

So there ya have it, I need a machine to re-string like...what...ONE racquet a MONTH? I've narrowed my choices down to Gamma X-2 (but I hear their clamps are garbage), and the Silent Partner Swing. I'm leaning towards the SPS because of the psuedo 6-point mounting and (from what I hear) very good clamps.

Anyway, the budget is up to $200 (not including shipping/taxes). Please recommend me something.

ATS SuperStringer II. I've had one for 1.5 years, no clamp trouble at all. Great to learn on and it's very cheap.

Cheers,

I have always looked that these stringers and wondered what kept them from clipping with tension being pulled on the frames. Seems to me like the frame supports are adjusted and held in place is pretty questionable. I guess you get what you pay for. Anyway there is another thread very similar to yours you may want to look at.

I love my SP Swing. Call SP and ask if they've got any demo machines for sale -- I got mine for $150 instead of $200!

Alpha String Pal entry level stringer

Give Alpha Tennis (NewTech Tennis) a call and see if they have the Alpha String Pal again (I saw one on the big auction site). Similar to the Gamma X2 & Klippermate, but has a silent clutch and a linear string gripper. I recall a price of $139 shipped. The guys at Alpha are great to do business with.

Supposedly, those alpha flying clamps are some of the best- right up there with Babolat's. At least, that's what I've heard.

How are the clamps that come with it? Is it metal? How are they compared to the Klipper ones? Thanks!!

The alpha clamps are all metal. Some of the finest floating clamps i've used. thinner profile than the klipper clamps and also better clamping ability. I bought an x2, sold the clamps and used the money to buy alpha clamps.

I tried to search for a comparison between the Alpha String Pal and the Kipper/X-2/SP Swing. However it seems not that many people here have owned this Alpha String pal. Thus hardly can I really find a review of it. Could any one please cast some light on? I almost decided to go with the SP Swing, but now I see the Alpha costs 100$ less so I am wondering does the cheap price means cheap stuff?

I doubt it with a company like Alpha. They're pretty top notch about stuff.

I think I'll go with the SP Swing. Thanks for the replies.

However, I'm still saving up, so hopefully I'll have enough $ by February (my b-day)
