Alpha Apex 2 on "backorder!?"

I called Alpha today (their toll free number) in hopes of purchasing a new Apex 2. Instead I was told by a rep that they were on "backorder," that no place in the world had them, and that they wouldn't be available again until October. Anyone know anything about this?

That stinks, all the way to October?! You going to go with another machine or wait it out?

Might purchase a NEOS. It's not a big deal crank-wise because I use the Wise tension head anyway, but I just really prefer the versatility of the Apex, and I don't like gliding clamps. I'm really torn right now.

The only con to (gliding) bar clamps is you can't do fan patterns. Unless you use a flying clamp.

Get the NEOS now, when the Apex comes available, sell the NEOS. Unless you buy new, you can probably get all of your money back on the NEOS.

I'm sure everyone's priorities/situations are different, but we're at the end of July and October is just over two months away. Waiting 69 days is that much of a hassle? If so, I'm guessing you run a business, you string for income or maybe your involvement with local/school tourneys make it imperative for you to have a machine of some sort immediately. If none of the aforementioned reasons apply, why the rush?

Oh crap, I e-mailed Alpha and they said end of August....now it's October???

I feel your pain. Call Mark and make sure you have dibs on a machine from the next shipment. Tell him he owes you some extra-moist brisket from Rudy's down there in Austin for your inconvenience. He'll make it right for you. No, you will not get any brisket :)

I was about to get the Apex 2 a couple of years ago, and it seemed to always be backordered. I was on the waiting list for over 6 months and decided to go with another machine. Just when I ordered, I got the e-mail that mine was in. No regrets. Mark was easy to deal with and even offered to sell me the machine without the crank, since I had a Wise.

Alpha DC Pioneer in stock

I have the Alpha DC Pioneer and it's a great machine for the home stringer.

I believe thetennisdepot has them in stock. I don't know if they give free Alpha strings like the guys at newtechtennis.

I just emailed Alpha asking where I could purchase a DC Pioneer Plus...same thing with that one. He said no one has them in stock and they won't be getting a shipment until early September. Great customer service as everyone says, though. I emailed them around lunch time today and they had sent me a reply by the time I got home from work around 10:00.

The Apex 2 was like this last year when I ordered mine as well. There were 5 coming in in early June and people had been waiting on the waiting list for a few months for them, and all five were spoken for. I was the first back-up on the waiting list. When they came in, turned out that one person had already purchased a different machine, so I lucked out and got the last one. However, even if I hadn't, I was planning on waiting for the next shipment a few months later, as I was set on the Apex 2. After owning it and stringing with it for just over a year, I wouldn't have changed anything, and would GLADLY have waited for one, had I not lucked out with the last one of the first shipment. I've had no problems with the machine at all, and Mark has provided absolutely wonderful customer service.
