am i fit or not?? (do i need to lose weight)

okay, im 14, a freshman in high school tennis which got 4th place in the state in IN last season, my game is at least a plus 4.0/4.5, i started playing three years ago, and am completely addicted. Before that, i had played club soccer for more than 5 yrs, but tennis was just IT for me...

on to my question, i have good speed from soccer, its one of my strengths, my mile is 5:26, my 400m is 53 seconds
im quite short, only 5 ft 5, but weigh 140 pounds, most people tell me i look like i weigh 115 or 120, i guess because im like really strong even thought i dont look all ripped (im asian, not that that should have anything to do w/ it, but people like to sterotype lol) but people think differently after theyve seen me work out and do exercies...i can do 15 one handed pushups on my right hand and 10 on my left, can do 100 2 handed pushups, bench 150, power clean 145, along with my running stats up above, however, the past couple of months, i have been gaining weight, most of it is muscle from my weight training class in HS, but i am starting to get some belly fat, its not at all noticeable, but i used to have a defined 6 pack and its starting to bother me, it hasnt had any effect on my tennis game or anything, but i cant seem to stop the slow but constant weight loss, i think its because my mother (who is asian like me) is really good at cooking, and oriental food isnt exactly the healthiest :p
i want to get better at tennis (and at track, which i do in the spring), and most tennis players are like tall skinny types, so im wondering do you guys think i should lose some weight or stop weight lifting or just see if i grow taller to offset the small weight gain...thanks guys, I know, long question, but just try your best :)

But i have to say there is some truth in Asian people ahving the least mount of testostrone or muscle mass but the best reflexes in the world on the otherhand theres Black people who are known to ahve most testostrone in their body out of allt he races but have genetically higher risk of heart disease.

haha ^ :D
I must be unique then :p
dont understand your reference to justine henin??, i didnt even mention my playing style?, even tho i do use a western grip :)

here in indiana, (i thought its the same everywhere, guess i was wrong lol), guy's tennis is in the fall, track is in the spring,
girls tennis is in the spring also, soccer is in the fall, which is why I had to quit tennis, which really sucked :(

i meant men's soccer in the fall, ladies in the spring, i kno very confusing, a lot of sports conflict...any comments about my fitness, anything i need to change??

At your age you shouldn't be concerned about having a six pack. The only way to cut down to get that six pack again would be to deprive yourself of calories, and that's not a smart thing to do when you're still growing (if you want to reach your maximum height, you need to give your body the nutrition it needs). Eat all you want, though don't eat the same salty Chinese food all the time. And keep up the weight training, your numbers are very impressive for your age and size.

It sounds like the only thing keeping you from having a killer body is your diet. It would probably take most people, even athletes, at least a year of training to get a :53 400 time. The fact that you can do that and have a far above average mile time is pretty astounding. I mean, the top 400 runner at my high school runs a 52 or so, and he is very likely to place well in state. Don't let anyone tell you that you aren't in good shape.

Just eat healthier, not necessarily less, and all that fat will come right off. But I'm not sure I would recommend that, as it could be that you just aren't into the deeper stages of puberty yet. You're metabolism could naturally shoot up in the next year and the weight will disappear before your very eyes.

High sodium food (assuming that by your asian mother comment) is a diet killer, but once you get rid of it for a few weeks the cravings are gone.

sounds like you are doing fine as far as staying in shape. don't think you need to lose any weight. keep working out and getting stronger (as long as you are staying quick and agile at the same time!). don't let a little ab fat worry you. as gmedlo said try to watch your diet and eat as healthy as possible (not always the first concern of hs students...). keep up the good work.

as far as hs sports, in CA they go like this:

women's tennis, football, cross country in fall
basketball, wrestling, soccer in winter
baseball, softball, golf, track, men's tennis in spring

thanks guys, yeah i really like track and have been training a long time, i pretty much fixate on a sport a month before the season starts and go hardcore training, btw, today in weight lifting, I squatted 205!, which was a new maxout for me :D.

yeah well my mom's cooking is really good but i have a feeling its not too healthy :p, ive been trying to eat brown rice and more fruits and vegetables, the 6 pack comment wasnt a thing w/ vanity, Im not as vain as most of my high school buddies (at least i hope im not! :p), it was just kinda evidence that ive been gaining a little fat there, but yeah thanks for the comments guys!
So far, I really like this whole forum, and as a new member, I hope to gain a lot of knowledge here and contribute what little I have :D.

You have to watch out what healthy food your eating cause i saw this interview with a doctor and the doctor said even if the foods healthy it'll make you want to eat more for example nutrigrain bars and vereal like JustRight makes you want to eat more because it lacks fibre so he said the general rule of thumb that i made was for every 100 calories you intake you should also intake 3g of fibre.

I personally would've love to lift a lot more during high school times... and eating a lot healthier food back then, now that I am looking back at the past.
No, you don't need to lose weight... you are most likely in okay shape... I really recommend getting cut though. [ Gain some muscle and lose same flabb] You can break the Asian stereotypes like what I have done : ) And you can become a better athlete... whether tennis or track... its gonna benefit you,

waddyamean oriental food isn't the healthiest i think its all great, and yes you do hav decent stats and whoever said the only way for this guy to get a six pack is to deprive himself of calories is totally wrong you must feed your muscles, maybe cut back on some types of calories but not calories overall. your running stats are pretty good too, my mile is 5:45 and my lifting stats are a little bit less than yours however i cant believe you can bench more than you can clean.

In my country, You are considered the "Terminator" mate'..

Hey yeah, I really suck at powercleaning, im not even joking...its not even funny either. That powerclean stat always embarrasses me, i cant get the technique down straight, people tell me i 'arm' it or something. It also seems to somehow hurt my wrists and back :(. My guess is its the exploding up part, Im not great at plyometrics (sp?). I dont know, i did bench 170 pounds today because we have maxouts this week, btw, my 40 meter time is 4.76 seconds, american football players obsess over this stat :p
to the comment about me being a 'terminator' in that country, ...not really, some of my fellow weightlifters, most of whom play american football can match or exceed my stats. Although, they are pretty big, so i guess I have a good strength-to-weight ratio. One of my friends today, he weights 145 pounds and is about 5 ft 7, he benched 220 pounds!!!, and squatted 290, and powercleaned 225, and ran a 40 time of 4.62, im not even lying, it was incredible. He is like the star player of our freshmen class. I bet I could kill him in tennis though :p, one thing I have noticed is that tennis players are really good at backpedaling and footwork stuff, at least I am better than that really ripped kid just now.
Another thing I have about him is my 10-20 1-handed pushups, those are really impressive to other people, even though if you know how to balance and have pretty decent triceps and chest, and practice, arent too bad, next thing I have to try is Bruce Lee's 2 fingered 1 handed pushups! :D

Hey guys, how do I quote? Which button is it? I feel really stupid...

wow...just noticed something, huge mistake in the very first post on the thread...:
"but i cant seem to stop the slow but constant weight loss"
loss should be "gain", huge mistake, sorry guys, I read it and saw the loss and it didnt make sense, so then I realized my mistake...

Well, the taller you are the more you can put on a couple extra pounds and nobody notices. Sadly, if you're short the same amount of extra weight is quite obvious. I'd say you should attack your new-found spare tire now before it gets out of control.

haha, its not exactly a spare tire, its not noticeable at all, its just that instead of a six pack i had 6 months ago, i now have a less defined 6 pack...over those six months ive put on about 10 pounds of muscle and 2 of fat. I just got my body fat percentage measured for the upcoming track season, nd its 8-9% which isnt too bad...but thanks guys for all the advice and comments...

Yes you probably have some fat arranging round your stomach, you must be eating unclean some of the time, it's normal, all you need to do is lower your calories you intake in a day and you should see it dissapearing with the exercise you do. I also gave up football (soccer) for tennis.

140lbs and 5'5 isn't overweight at all.

Nadal, so long as you don't feel your body limiting you from your playing, you are fine. I will have to say though, do try to refrain from heavy weight lifting while you're so young, you don't want to stunt your growth. Only your weight training coach will tell you that is a myth and he is most likely short... we asians already have the gene pool stacked against us (my dad is 5'5, mom is 5, luckily I made it out ok at 5'11, 175). I kept in shape until I was 17 by a steady regime of push ups, pull ups, dips, and sports.

Weight training will also reduce your range of motion. About a couple years ago I was really into weight lifting and more specifically getting my one rep bench to 300 lbs (that was my new years resolution/goal). After accomplishing that, my next one was triathlons and getting back into tennis and sports instead of the gym. The thing I noticed the most is my loss of flexibility and range of motion. I got overly developed in my chest, which shortened my swim strokes, tennis strokes, etc...

Look at good middleweight and light heavyweight boxers. They only look like they have massive pecs bc of their low bodyfat %. Its actually their shoulders and back that are huge.

As far as diet is concerned, I can't cut out fatty foods, but M-F, I practically live off veggie burgers (Mourningstar FTW) for lunch and lean meat and rice for dinner. On the weekends when I'm out with my GF or friends is when I slack on my diet. This balance with my heavy weekly workout regime (weight lifting 3x, boxing 3x, running 2x, tennis 4x) seems to work best for me.
