Just shows how important it is for players to choose to play for a coach with a known good reputation of treating athletes fairly (of course coach could leave). I wonder if more of these situations will occur in the Power schools now that they have multi year guaranteed scholarship agreements where players' scholarships can't be cut for performance (for info on that rule https://informedathlete.com/the-facts-about-guaranteed-multi-year-ncaa-di-scholarships/ ) Even players with "guaranteed" scholarships can be cut for "violating university rules". Considering that student athletic handbooks are usually 50+ pages long, if a Power coach wants to get rid of a player, he can probably find something in the fine print to use without making up false accusations like this coach did. Too bad for the UNCC players still on the roster-they are one of the better MM teams this year.
It's disturbing that multiple players talked to multiple staff in UNCC athletic administration, human resources, and Title IX and all just dismissed the players' complaints. I am surprised the player is not suing for more $. He was promised his scholarship would still be honored even though he was off the team, showed up for classes last fall, and then was told he had no financial aid. It is bad enough his athletic career was disrupted, but his academic progress was too unless he or his parents paid this year's out of state tuition themselves.
I vaguely remember this player-he was a 5 star late recruit (May/June of his senior year) to an in state (for him) Power school and then must have transferred to UNC-C. Parents and players should do as much research as possible on teams and coaches and understand their level by their junior HS year; they will have the most choices, the best options for a good fit, and a chance at some $ in spring of their junior year or fall of their senior. Too many players whose level may have dropped slightly late in HS hold out for a dream school, either go there, not play and transfer or scramble to find a slot late in their senior year. Sorry to hear this happened.

I agree with everything you wrote, however, I think it's important to keep in mind that this is a "he said, he said" situation. From this article, we only know the perspective of one player - it is certainly possible that other teammates would not agree with the way he presented this info.

I agree - there should be a presumption of innocence until proven guilty. However, there “allegedly” were several players who complained to the AD. If that’s the case, then it looks pretty bad.
And the lawsuit is dragging a lot of people into this. It claims that this coach was reported back in 2017 and that instance did not include the player bringing this current litigation. I'm sure the depositions will bring the truth to light.

if this kind of shady actions were taken by the coach, it should come to light. and Sometimes unfortunately, Lawsuit is the only way to bring these things to light

Yes but if we refuse to hear or investigate every questionable character, our justice system would be in the trash. Full investigation and fact finding is always mandatory to serve justice

At this point, with social media and 24 hour connectedness, our justice system is in the trash. If you're guilty in the court of public opinion it never goes away. Ask OJ.

Seems pretty straightforward - coach claims several players came forward to report bullying. If this is corroborated the coach should be fine. If not he looks like a liar.
