Another option for starting mains

If you know how to do it right the first time, the extra steps aren't required. I think that is the point at you keep missing here.

Insinuating that people cant think out of the box is a nice way to prop yourself up, but it does not apply in this case.

I'm not saying that people can't think outside of the box. I'm saying that they usually don't think outside of the box. Maybe there are some people who are able to think that way but don't act on it. Pity.

As for the method I've proposed, it's just a couple of extra steps to produce a more secure ball. It's not that hard.

Its just not not needed in my case and about everyone elses as well.

What exactly is a more secure ball anyway? That doesnt even really make sense.

PP, you're using poly mains in your hybrid, so I can see how Yusuki method would work good for starting your mains. I don't think it works as well for soft mains. A 'secure ball' is just another way of saying you have better control of the ball and more confidence in your shot.

But to be honest, I am defining the term as I write. That's what I was trying to get across when I used it above. I heard the term from Martina Navratilova when she said that the two hand backhand is a more secure ball. That's my best memory of how she said that.

I'd like to see some rec players using synthetic gut and multi being given the option to try this method instead of what the pros use. It would be interesting to see if they notice any better control or more secure ball feel in their shots.

Ok. I never really had an issue since i have strung sticks with full syn gut for years as well.

I truly think the yusuki method works fine for starting mains, as i have strung gut mains and syn gut mains with it many times.

How often do you clean and tighten your clamps?

Okay, you've had better experiences with Yusuki method than I have. That's fine.

I think there is a difference. I clean my clamps every five racquets, or less if needed. I adjust my clamps every time I string because I use four different racquets and I often switch up the kinds of strings I'm using.

Now, the reason I'm sure there is a difference in the two methods (Yusuki and Pull It Again) is that on Pull It Again, I always pull at leaset a little extra slack out of the two middle mains. Just a llittle extra slack makes a big difference in tension. And when I used to use Yusuki for Tecnifibre Multifeel and Pro Supex Spiral Flex full beds, I had too much deflection and an insecure feeling in the pocket.

I'm not saying you're wrong to use Yusuki method. I've tried both. But you seem to want what I'm doing to be invalid. And you haven't even tried it yet. If you want to keep posting, I'll do my best to provide answers, even if I'm repeating myself.

The thing is this is not a lacrosse stick. Its a tennis racquet, so there is no pocket. There is a sweetspot and with low tensions you can get a little pocketing, but not like you describe.

What i mean is - I've never had an insecure feeling in the pocket. Its a non issue for me. I have never even heard that term before in my life to describe a tennis racquet. So as a result, i dont see the need to do anything differently.

Furthermore you can go back in this thread and read all the experienced stringers who are telling you its not needed. Key word is experienced.

I'm not experienced and the experienced guys are writing it off without trying it. Who knows, this board appeals to a wide audience. Maybe people are keeping an open mind and trying it out. I concede that some people won't notice any difference.

You should reread the posts in this forum because it seems like you dont grasp why they see trying it as a waste of time.

In the end do it how you want. But to rate it above the proven yusuki method as a newer stringer just indicates you may be making some mistakes along the way.

My stringbeds feel better. They feel right now. And that's not just wishful thinking.

I don't rate it as better than Yusuki. It's just different and a viable option.

Earlier you made a numbered list 1-3 and put your method over the yusuki. Is that not a rating system?

In your words:
On a scale of predictable and consistent (1) to technical and less consistent (3), I would rate the three methods I know of to start the mains as follows:

1) Frying Pan
2) Pull It Again
3) Yusuki

As you go down the list, you get more pocketing and a sweeter sweetspot. But higher on the list, it's easier to just whail on the ball, or for a novice not suffering from a lack of skills.

As you can see you just did rate them a few days ago.

I point that out just because the way you communicate sometimes is not very clear. Like you just make up your own definitions for words or ways to string, and expect everyone to buy in. I think its in your head, and you are changing things up at your convenience.

But its all good. You are stringing for yourself so it doesnt matter as long as it makes you feel like it works.

I've lost the will to talk about . . . what is it we were talking about? I'll take this opportunity to close this thread.
