Anyone Try Polyfibre Black Venom Rough?

Just got a set of this in based on the positive reviews of it by posters fgs and i believe pepka?.. I'm unsure which to tension to try it at as most of the polyfibre strings i have tried have been very soft and I'm afraid to string it low as it will become a rocket launcher..

Question is, if anyone else tried it here or even fgs, did you feel it played softer than the regular black venom? Do you think I should stringer it tighter or looser?

Thanks in advance!

hello rodgrigoamaral,
as the manufacturer suggested i should string it higher than usual poly and the stabilization loss on twu-data indicated also a higher percentage, i have gone up "only" 1lb with tension. they say basically more (8-10%), but i decided to up just 0.5kg (approx. 1.1lb) from my usual tension i string the mantis power poly (22kg - approx. 49lbs) in the mains. i'm now playing a stiff 100 sqare inch frame, the mantis 300, with 16 mains, a frame in which i also tried the black venom rough.
due to bad wheather and my current trip i have not had the opportunity to hit again, so i'm stuck at the 6-7 hours mark, but will continue this weekend my playing and testing.
have fun.

I think pepka tried the smooth version...

IMHO it is a bit stiffer than the "Original" with a tad less power, slightly crisper feel.

Due to the surface it has a slightly tacky feel. I know the term "tacky" is mostly used when talking about grips but I think it fits the bill nicely here.

Also it does a better job, which is actually logical, of keeping a soft cross string in place.

I like Black Venom so much that I'm narrowing my "perfect setup search" to the following:
Black Venom 1,25mm
BV Rough
BV 1,25/Mantis Comfort Synthetic
BV Rough/Mantis Comfort Synthetic

I'm also thinking of trying a full MCS bed but in a much lighter racquet than what I'm used to.

That's correct ;-) Based on Your opinion i'll be trying the Rough version ASAP (even before B5E, which is sitting on my desk for almost 2 months now) :)

You just made my day :) It will probably still be a comfiest co-poly i played with.
As for the stringing tension. What fgs said is a great advice. String t slightly tighter since it's extra soft and likes to lose some tension after a while (at leats that's what i did that with the regular version. I aded 0.5kg and should've gone even higher).

polyfibre black venom rough (for me) was the single worst string that i have ever tried. cut it out after 20 mins....just terrible

one man's junk is obviously another man's treasure.
if you like stiff polys than stay away from this string.

20 mins of hitting is not enough to determine wheather the string is ok or not. I hated the RIP on my first playing session, loved it after that. On the other hand i hated Promix and X-code from the first hit and it never changed (but i still gave them a chance for few hours).

some people love to "hate". what quite a few don't understand is that liking or not liking a certain string is a much more complex issue and if you really want to get to the bottom of it, you have to play a string longer, as some strings do need a "break-in" period, even if prestretched (or stepped upon, poststretched, as i do). a string has certain characteristics which naturally vary with the tension employed and it has often been the case that a certain string at a certain tension in a certain frame does not blend at all and gives a poor feedback, but in another frame at another tension it performs unbelievably well.
in my opinion there is no "worst string ever", because in order to make a qualified statement about this you should have tried it in at least 5-6 different sticks at at least two tensions. it is rather unlikely that even a very cheap string does perform to "the worst ever" in all those circumstances, but then of course we don't have so much time at hand to make a truly "qualified" statement.
i did not like rpm blast in an aeropro drive gt, a top junior is playing with, but that doesn't mean that the rpm blast would have the same behaviour in my frames at my usual tensions.
there are strings that do not fit my bill, but that doesn't mean that they don't fit other people's bill.

just came back from another league match and about 2.5h of play altogether in singles and doubles.
it was a very hot and humitd day out there and the string played softer but also the balls had a "different" behavior, in spite of being the same balls we usually play for all the matches (babolat team - quite playable). the spin was still dipping in and kicking off high on my second serve, could hit some aces (small wonder with my shoulder but nevertheless), but some slices sailed long (half a foot - 15cm) and the two droppers i tried went to be some half-lobs (so i refrained from hitting others).
so basically i do think that the string still plays solid, the "weird" feeling on some strokes should be rather due to the heat. honestly, i wished today i'd strung it another 0.5kg higher (so all in all 1kg), but only on those "specialty" shots, the others simply clicked without much thinking about.
this evening i'm going to give them another run as i do some practice with my son for two hours.
on the central mains the profile has worn down quite a bit in the mean time, but there still are some remnants left. as stated above, the topspins were still dipping before the baseline, so this just comes to validate my theory that less than 2 (max.3%) of the spin is generated by the string, the rest is the player.
on the other hand i could not see and feel that precision on volleys was less due to the texture, as some players report.

tested this string and was impressed overall as it held tension better than the other polyfibre string offerings, offered pretty good spin as well

stringing: not as bad as something like a spiky, blue gear or spiky shark but took a few min longer than usual due to the rough surface

power: this is a low-powered string IMO compared to other polys such as poly star energy or black magic
durability: lasted about 13 before breaking so very good for me
Spin: Excellent spin potential and better than the hexa blade
Comfort/ Feel: plays pretty soft for a poly overall
Control: average, nothing spectacular but not bad either
Tension Stability: above average for Polyfibre, as good as other good tension-holding polys
Overall: This is a nice string, being arm-friendly with good spin potential. Would recommend if seeking something soft with good spin and in the black color!

How could you compare Black Venom Rough 1.25 to Black Venom 1.25?

Where is the best spin, best control, less power and better tension maintenance?

Thanks!
