APDC string setup?

Any advice for string setup (brand, tension, etc.)??

I have tried sppp 18g in main (58 lbs) and Gosen OG sheep 17g in cross (60 lbs). I couldn't control the power. I have been using RDS001 mp with same setup without any problem.

Thanks in advance.

I think it might also be an issue of getting used to the apdc after playing with the much lower powered rds001. They are both great sticks but VERY different in the technique. What grip are you using?

I use an APDC with alurough mains at 50 and syn gut crosses at 53 and have no power issues but as it warms up will likely move up to 52/55. Pro supex 1.28 blue gear mains work fantastic in that stick.

Thanks for reply.
Good point. I agree on that issue. I have ever tried full Gosen OG setup (16g, 60 lbs) before this setup. I could manage to handle APDC with my style though they felt different. Is it matter of string gauge?? Do you mean grip size?? It is 1/4, but it feels like 3/8 of my RDS.

What was the tension for Pro supex 1.28??

I was referring to semi or western grip. Sometimes, when I use my apdc, I have to use a more extreme grip to get the most out of it. I'm using 54 or 55 mains in the supex blue gear. Give it a shot, I think you might like it. :)

^^^One more point, 16g should be fine in the apdc. You might consider the full poly as that will give you even more control. Full cyberflash might be what you need as it's a very firm control oriented string. It's a bit to stiff for my arm, but many people swear by it.

ive been using ProHurricane Tour mains with Attaction crosses strung at 57 in my apdc. has good feel but i can still control the ball.

recently i've been testing out Technifibre RedCode strung at 55. i like it alot, but i think the next time i string one im gonna string it at 57 or 58 since i feel like i could get a little more control out of it at a higher tension.

hope that helps!!

Hey PED, one more thing.
Have you ever customized your APDC??

Yes I have: I've played around with several setups including the "nadal setup" from these boards: that involved 9.5G at the top of the hoop and 2.5g in the handle: that's head oriented to say the least. It was a fun setup but I doubt my wrist could take it and as I got tired it was harder to time my shots correctly with so much lead up there.

I now am using 3g at the top of the hoop and 8g in the handle.

This makes it very head light and REALLY whips through the strike zone. I've experimented with the various weights at either end: even trying 3g hoop and 10g handle but that was a tad off. I also tried 4g hoop and 8g handle BUT the 3g hoop/8g handle works perfectly for me. It weighs right on 12 oz which should make it more comparable to the rds001 in weight.

I've tried various string setups as well and currently have the alurough/titan syn gut crosses in there. I like the alu mains but I have to admit that the Blue Gear 1.28 mains are the best setup I've had in that stick. The APDC is spinny anyway and the blue gear is like throwing gas on the fire ;)

ONe last point, I recommend using the babolat lead as it weighs double what other half inch lead stripes do so you can use much less and it's much neater and easier with less lead all over the place.

Hola odyssey,

My APDC has Pro Hurricane 17 @ 54 mains and Conquest 17 @ 56 cross. I have 2 grs @ 12 and 5 grs in the handle (Syntec Overgrip).

If you play with soft balls you may have to increase your tension a couple of pounds.
