Are Federer's 4 Grand Slam wins against Wawrinka after Wawrinka's 1st Grand Slam win underrated?

After Wawrinka won the 2014 Australian Open, Federer defeated in 4 out of 5 Grand Slam matches at all 4 Grand Slams.

Nadal defeated Wawrinka once after
Djokovic loss 3 out of 4 Grand Slam matches to Wawrinka
Murray loss 2 out of 3 Grand Slam matches to Wawrinka

Are Federer's 4 Grand Slam wins against Wawrinka after Wawrinka's 1st Grand Slam win underrated?

Djokovic: wawrinkas slam pigeon since mid 2015 lol
Fed: too much variety usually for wawrinka.
Murray: actually surprised that wawrinka couldn't dominate Murray more and lost a few big matches. Djokovic owes a few slams to Murray taking out wawrinka.
Nadal: 1hbh, enough said

Wawrinka defeated Federer 4-6 7-6(5) 6-2 in the 2014 Montecarlo final as well. It must have been Fed's best chance to win this M1000.
He had two championship points (15-40) in the 2006 Rome final on Nadal's serve in the fifth set, too, in the other M1000 he could never win.
Therefore, Fed was a few points away of completing the career M1000's.

Yes. Given Stan had Djoker's number, it makes it more interesting that Federer was always taking care of business against Wawrinka.

Noticeable wins: USO15, AO17, RG19, IW17...

He would practically always be the favorite. Kind of like Fed vs. Rafa post 2014.

I think so. Sure the matchup favours him but he still had to turn up and absolutely did. It’s not like Stan was playing badly at all in the matches in question. USO 15 in particular was absolutely brutal

Djokovic has vultured 6 non-grass slams by avoiding Stan since 2015 and it isn’t talked about enough :cautious:

No GOLDEN Masters for Roger! Novak has a "Double GM!" Nadal out in the wilderness with no Paris or Miami Masters to claim! Novak just needed Cinci and got 2 late! :laughing:

Yeah he was truly GOATing in that one. I think he could have beaten a better Fed with that level too

Stan had a serious mental block when it came to playing his countryman! They played in the SF of the YEC and Stan had it, but an injured Roger got thru with the help of Mirka who was trolling Wawrinka from the stands! As we know, after all that, Federer WD and gave Novak a walkover victory! :cautious: :oops::rolleyes:;):unsure:

The fact that Wawrika has been able to carve out a measure of genuine success despite being in Federer's shadow, I feel really goes to show just how good Stan is. So yes, I think that perhaps the wins have been underated in the general ttw population BUT I don't think Roger has ever underated them.

Them not having a signature match holds back the rivalry a bit.

The only 5 setter they played was of extremely variable quality. They never played their best tennis at the same time, they just took turns sucking. The 2015 matches were high level from the winners, but the losers offered no resistance. Their Wimbledon match was decent, but in hindsight they're far too mismatched on grass to take much away from a match that Federer should always win. And in 2019 they were both too far removed from their best to read too much into it.

I remember that loss being the first one where Fed was openly content and satisfied with a QF loss. Had never happened before IIRC. It was surprising to say the least but shows how well Wawrinka had played that tournament.
And maybe it speaks of their friendship too.

Maybe Federer didn’t decline that much in his mid-thirties as he was beating almost everyone else with ease except Djokovic in his prime and Nadal on clay. He made it to 7 Slam finals out of 17 Slams played between Wimbledon in 2014 and 2019 - also made 4 SFs. He won 3 Slams and lost 4 Slam Finals only to Djokovic in that period. Maybe it is Federer’s decline that is over-rated as he looked pretty good when you saw him courtside in those years.

If it's a Federer win, guarantee it's rated way too low. lol

Outside of Wimbledon 2008, Australian Open 2009, and Wimbledon 2019, it's like casual fans don't watch his matches

There were times I wasn't watching! I was barely keeping up with results off and on from '06-11. then '12-14! Novak sparked my interested after winning Davis Cup for Serbia at the end of 2010! He was on a tear, defeating Fedal and everyone else winning 40+ matches in a row! You couldn't pay me to watch those battles at the FO between Nadovic! En Oui set in again when Novak injured 2017 with Fedal redux! I didn't watch much of it! This Fall should be great with Novak and the rest will be playing every event possible due to points and a need for match play! Novak took no prisoners defeating Andujar 1 & 3 in Tel Aviv, 2nd Rd.! :cautious: :oops::rolleyes:;)

I think such specific rating is for Fedstans only, really. There are so many matches going on each year, what do we have to do, make a big deal out of all of them?
Player forum please.

When you've done the things Fed has done on the court, and the focus is almost entirely on your narrow failures against other greats. What a cultural failure.

Its a weird one , Wawrinka must be the only player since 2014 that has beaten Djokovic in three different slams, when Wawrinka peaked like that he was the only player that could consistently go toe to toe with Djokovic at different slams.

List the rest

Andy Murray;
2012, 2013, 2014, 2016;
Double-faulted on break/championship point twice in a slam final;
A 3-6 record in USO finals with losses to 5 different players;
Even with the benefit of no strong NextGens, failed to achieve big records during his peak/prime...most of them achieved during the Inflation Era.

Just remembered Wimb 2014 too should be added to the list. And those were all high caliber matches in late stages of tournaments.
