Babolat Pure Aero comfort string setup

im a big fan of cream, but the durability isn‘t good compared to other polys, but that is the price to pay.
i used lynx also as a cross with gut mains and imo cream was lower powered.

multi/poly is just the next step in comfort from poly/multi. but durability is worse, performance is still good with the right strings.

in poly multi setups there is less spin, that is true, and the stringbed „can“ lockup, but not all multis are equal. i recommended velocity mlt because it has a very slick coating so the stringbed won‘t lockup that quick.
i personally always prefered poly multi to full poly
even when my arm was fine, and so does some pros like zverev.

Will try cream only if lynx or ptp is not enough then. Yeah ill try poly multi and then multi poly after. I quite enjoyed the extra power from the multi cross which i didnt expect.
aha alright thanks poly/velocity it will be! thanks for clearing that up
zverev hit setup is really cool.

One thing though i dont think any advanced player can use multi at all. At this moment i think that i even cant use it in a hybrid(but could be completely wrong here thats why asking)

Zverev and many use hybrids but Poly/with Natural gut, not with multi.

Lets say i break PTP soft poly in 3 hours. I dont see any space here to go with hybrid with multi as it would be even worse. My guess is i would cut it down to 2 hours with poly/multi and 1 hour to just multi.

Poly/Natural maybe would be similar to just PTP but it would be just too expensive.

Right?
I dont see a reason for you to go multi cross either. Only as last resort if racket switch or lower tension doesnt work. interested to hear g4driver his response in the other thread on your situation

my string preferences-
FB poly in 16x19 (for comparison)- 50lbs main, 48lbs cross
FB poly in 18x20 (for comparison)- 46lbs main, 44lbs cross
FB low powered multi (i.e. PPC or velocity) in 16x19 (for comparison)- 55lbs
FB low powered multi (i.e. PPC or velocity)in 18x20 (for comparison)- 50-52

poly/multi in 18x20- 47lbs poly main, 51 lbs multi cross

polys recs (in order of my preference): 1) wilson revolve spin 17g 2) wilson revolve 17g 3) hyper g soft 17g 4) cyclone 17g
multis i would recommend as a cross: 1) PPC- available in 15g in some areas 2) Velocity 3) Tourna Quasi Gut Armor (most comfortable cross for me)

take a look here as well:
this is very very helpful :) appreciate it. I ordered velocity and will try wilson revolve as well. curious to try it after head lynx and see which I like better.
tensions recs = great!
also wow thanks for linking that thread

well there is a difference between playability and durability. playabilty of poly / multi is fine imo, there aren‘t any performance deficits in comparison to a full poly setup in general, it is just a question of preference.
but the durability is a problem for sure. especially in open pattern frames like the pa, which are better suited to full poly setups so you get max spin and durability.

i‘m pretty sure there are some pros who still use poly multi, and simon used full poly his whole career (till a while ago). djokovic and thiem used full multi in their early pro carrers but they used closed pattern frames.

yes gut in the crosses is just a waste of money.
really do you know what multi they used?

update 3:
I ordered velocity mlt and tecnifibre multifeel. First thing to try out: head lynx mains / velocity cross. for tension I will figure something out in the range recommended by @billsedd. thinking something like 51/53.

Meanwhile I did a deep dive in the kobayashi maru thread. damn thats some info. @g4driver has alot of hybrid options I didnt consider or knew were even a possibility.

So as this is a GOAT thread, I wanted to compile a few of the @g4driver gospels in one place (for my easy recollection too!) as I work through them all.

Poly: From Stiff to Soft
HG 1.25mm/GW 1.22mm
FW 1.25mm/GW 1.22mm
HGS 1.25mm/GW 1.22mm
VCT 1.30mm

Multiester Combinations:
1.35mm HDX Tour or 1.35mm HDMX in the mains with YPTA or Cream crosses.
1.33mm/1.38mm Triax in the mains with YPTA or Cream crosses.

Multifilaments

1.30mm MF, PPC, X1 or NXT in the mains with Velocity Crosses.
1.40 PPC with Cream crosses.

Hopefully I've understood that correctly as I trawled through numerous threads - @g4driver please do correct me!
Maybe I missed it in the thread, excuse me if I did. But know im curious if one of these hybrids are even a better fit .. *thinking*. anyway if yall have an opinion on this let me know. velocity cross is first on the list. round poly mains. lynx/ptp/revolve. have the feeling it would play similar so ill start with the lynx I have laying around.

also, whats the deal with multi multi hybrids? ppc main with velocity crosses? why is it better than fb multi?

Velocity is a low powered multi. It feels much different from others like X1 (to name just one).
Some people might want that in the cross for a better feel.

alright so I know I'm just updating this for myself but I'll go ahead anyway. Read more @g4driver rec's. I see alot of others rec's were actually @g4driver approved as well. My plan is to try: head lynx/velocity first to set a baseline.

after that I'll go the route from the bottom. starting at the most beginner approved and then go 1 step more durable when I start to break them too quickly. I actually have no idea if I would break multis but I dont break polys.

1. FB velocity
2. MF / velocity
3. velocity or PPC / cream
4. cream / velocity
5. triax or hdmx or rpx / cream or ypta

Want a comfortable long-lasting setup in that Pure Aero? I watched the YouTube video you posted. Nice forehand and nice red clay!

I have 4.5C friends using the 2019 model Pure Aero with Klip Legend 1.35mm / Ghostwire 1.27mm as they tend to break strings somewhat quickly in the uber open Pure Aero.

1) Put some 1.30mm quality Natural Gut (listed at the bottom of my post) and use a smooth poly cross like 1.27mm Ghostwire or 1.25mm Poly Tour Pro. It's going to be buttery soft compared to any poly/multi or shaped~edged poly/syn gut and it will last 3 times as long.

2) Find someone who strings Natural Gut frequently and don't let a novice stringer string the NG/poly. This setup works well for several of my 4.5C-rated USTA clients (4.5C players are in the top 10% of all rec players in the USA) It lasts them several months. NG holds tension better than any string. It's the most powerful string and it is the softest. The poly crosses are there to tame the power of the NG, and the NG mains slide across the poly crosses as the NG releases the oil in the string. The upfront cost is greater, but you will restring less often and your elbow will thank you. NG/poly is a spin-friendly, soft setup. Plenty of threads on NG/Poly out there. But my .02 is that from a stringer.

3)Tell the stringer this:

a) Tie the poly crosses to the poly crosses (yes tell them to ignore Babolat's Tie locations for the crosses) (Why? it prevents premature shanks from snapping the gut mains)
b) Add 10% tension to the outer four strings (the two outer mains and the two outer crosses)

My .02 string your frame at 25kg Mains / 24kg Crosses or 55M/53X and if you snap the 1.30mm NG in less than two months, move up to 1.35mm NG.

Pretty certain you aren't in the US, but highly recommend you get the cheapest of these four NG and avoid the cheap budget natural guts.

Best wishes my friend

whoa, you're far too kind sir. You already helped me alot. Didn't expect you to bless me with a personal consultation :) and thanks for the compliment on the video.
very interesting recommendations that I didn't think about. Haven't considered gut because I thought that would be too expensive. But if you say it will last me 3x as long.. then it becomes a whole different story! really good idea.
I have no idea what those stringing instruction mean, guess I'll use it to filter on a stringer that's fit for the job. If they understand them and have experience it should be fine.
prices for NG for me here are somewhat pricey I think. these are excluding shipping cost. which would maybe add around 5-7 euro.
klip legend: 45
wilson: 55
luxilon: 50
VS touch: 42
prices are in euro's which would be around the same price in dollars since the euro has lost even more value than the dollar .
triax and hdmx are both 18 euro. I don't know how they hold up vs NG in value (durabilty x price) and comfort.
I will def try and spoil myself with NG/poly soon to see how it is. If they last me that long its all good. Appreciate you taking the time and thank you so much man.

the journey continues:
note that I haven't found a good stringer I trust with NG yet so I tried out some other things.
I have three different rackets, which is not ideal but I try to get a sense of string performance as best as I can. all rackets are non modded

I tried:

POLY/SG Pure aero 2019: poly/syn hybrid at 23 kg: very powerful, no pain, enjoyed it alot, low launch angle, good easy depth, easy to play but got a bit launchy after 4-5 hours.

LOW TENSION POLY:pure aero: fb poly (red devil) at 19 kg: also no pain. higher launch angle. lot more spin. but alot more difficult to play with in the sense that I really have to work to get consistent good shots. when I hit it well the balls go deep and alot of spin. When I hit it not so well or not spin enough it's not that forgiving. Balls just flop sometime or fly. Has alot of potential if I play good. String bed feels good when I spin. But there is alot of disconnect. no real connection to the ball. Also feel like the balls went less powerful than with the poly/syn hybrid. So whats more difficult for an opponent? faster shots or more spinny shots?

POLY/MULTI:speed graphene touch mp: poly/velocity hybrid at 23 kg: weirdly enough my most disliked setup. Have to put in more effort to get depth. everything is moderate. balls sink in too much and dont explode really. Spin is good and all but missing some pop.

FB SYN GUT: blade 98 2013 18x20: full bed of pro's pro synthetic gut at 24 kg: first time trying syn gut full bed. This was actually nice. It's really hard to play bad shots with this. balls go deep and with pace with little effort. even when I speed up there is enough control. comfort is nice and launch angle is easy to manipulate. with low tension poly I didnt always know what I would get. here I do. problems: mains and crosses move all over the place. left and right, up and down. Don't know if the stringjob is bad or if it's supposed to be like this. also the spin and shape of the ball was far less. So I imagine balls were easier for the opponent than when I would hit a good ball with a fb poly.

Any thoughts on what to try next reading my experiences with these types of strings? mess with the tension or settling on the right string material first?

@K1Y i really found this thread very useful, even though 2 years old already... I'm trying to get back to using my old aero and have had arm problems in recent years. What was your final outcome or decision on this one? I would probably start with a full bed of cream at around 52 lbs, because I have this at hand right now to give to my stringer, but might be to harsh still...

Hi @tobi9008, glad you found it useful. Thanks for reading it all. I ended up selling the aero because I noticed the grip was too big, that made me squeeze the racket too much, causing a stiff arm and more chance of injuries. My elbow pain mostly dissapeared over time when I started restringing more frequently. Dead poly really is the cause of most discomfort for me. In the end I didnt try all the multi setups. For my game I reallly need to play with some sort of poly. It depends on what you want. If you are not competitive I would try full bed of multi. If you are competitive and you are used to poly I would try a soft poly at 50 lbs max first. My favorite soft poly has got to be Head lynx. I guess cream works too. Alternatively, you can string a poly low, my favorite setup in the aero before I sold it was kirschbaum super smash orange at 40 lbs. So it depends on how badly u need poly, but go soft or go low. 52 lbs cream is fine if you have no arm pain at the moment, but if you have it then it would be too harsh I think. If you play flat then a hybrid could work too, I think whatever round poly and whatever multi at 50 lbs is soft enough if you dont have super sensitive arms.

My current setup is the Head speed mp with Head lynx at 55 lbs or Hyper g at 45 lbs. I restring every 8 hours.
