best performances on a slam tournament

I hate to say that thing but Nadal RG 08 was great. He was very dominant on his surface. Before the final I had known that Roger would have no chance.

Wow, you really underestimate Roddick. The guy is certainly not the greatest ever, but he has a fantastic serve and a great forehand alongside decent volley game (when he tries it). I think Roddick's main problem is that he's not smart enough to use his weapons well. His decision-making on court is really bad. Still, he won a slam and has been in the top 10 for years now. In fact, this "awful" player has defeated Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic earlier this year.

So yes, Roddick has seen better days and is not considered a top contender anymore, but he's still a big threat against anyone, and he is a very good player. Not amazing, but very good.

nope, you're totally wrong. roddick, for him to be considered as a great player, must play in the 90s even if he won't win a slam there. don't disagree with cenc on this one.

French 2008 without a doubt. It was just ridiculous. Nadal wasn't even in danger of losing a set, much less a match the whole time.

Against Belluci he kinda was.

Oh, and to answer the thread I'm putting Roddick USO 2003. Because he's so underrated on this board and still managed to win a slam (despite the two surface slow downs prior to his winning).

Sorry Sampras fanboy but Sampras doesnt have a top 5 backhand on any surface.  If all players were allowed to do was hit backhands at Wimbledon, no serves, no forehands, no volleys, then Sampras would lose in the 1st or 2nd round every year.
1) yea im definitely a fanboy of a player who destroyed the career of my favourite player, goran

2) u have no idea what ur talking about so i dont see a point answering to ur posts any more

Wow, quite a war zone here :-?

I've seen only the final of Marat's USO 2000, but that was perfection and utter domination. Nadal's RG 08 utter dominance is still evident in the perception of anyone's chances in the year(s) to come.

On the males: Nadal's RG '08,pure utter decimation of his opponents.
And ladies: Serena's AO '07. She dominated the entire tournament, just like Venus at Wimby '08...

i would say:

sampras - wimbledon 1999
federer - wimbledon 2003
nadal - roland garros 2008
krajicek - wimbledon 1996
safin - us open 2000
hewitt - us open 2001
federer - wimbledon 2006
federer - us open 2004
sampras - us open 1995
sampras - us open 1996
kuerten - roland garros 1997
sampras - wimbledon 1994
agassi - australian open 2000

I think Nadal Wimbledon 2008 should be included for the fact that he was not seriously challenged before the final ( a minor 1 if u count the 4 set against gulbis in 2nd round) and the Final is just an epic.

do you have proof of that?

i would say their about equal feats. the federer/safin semifinal was some of the highest level tennis you will ever see. safin beat federer when fed was playing his best tennis. that is quite rare and safin deserves all the credit. safin's domination of sampras in USO 2000 was amazing but it was the tail end of sampras' career. i thought he didnt move great in that match

I am pleasantly surprised people mention 1996 Krajicek. He cannot be counted among the greats of tennis and was a player who relied heavily on his serve for most of his carreer, but those to weeks he was the clutchest I have ever seen anyone. Everything would work. Volleys, backhand passing shots, offensive forehands. There was really nothing to do about it. Just ask Sampras, who went out in straight sets without mercy.

Ya, that was the first major I saw in almost its entirety. It seemed like after Krajicek beat Sampras, everybody knew that nobody could stop him from winning the title.

And aus 2005>u.s 2000. At least in 05 we got safin/fed playing their best, unlike 2000 where we just had sampras getting owned.

ouch
your tennis knowledge impresses me. do you watch feds haircut or tennis?

i started watching tennis in 1998, but i saw many matches played before that

btw are you able to count basic shots in tennis?
or you will call your friend krijeck to help u?

So you started watching tennis when you were 6 years old?

Who are you kidding? you live in croatia, I bet you only got tv's a couple of years ago:)

u can insult me, tell me whatever u want but for the last sentence u deserve a ban because this is insulting a nation

and yes i started watching tennis at age of 6 because i was clever enough to follow it unlike u who at age of (?) still cant follow it and only thing u watch is federer because u seem in love with him

Nadal at 08' Roland Garros was probably the best grandslam performance..I mean c'mon it wasnt even fair...I turned the channel for a few moments just to let federer cry in private.

all best performances coming from last 4 years?

then why are you f***ing asking if you don't like their opinions? to you the best tennis were played in the 90s. to you everything in the 90s were the best that ever happened in tennis. not most, especially in their right minds, buys that.

Agreed. That was some incredible tennis from Nadal there. He played like that against Djokovic as well for 2 and a half sets.
