Best string job for me? Poly?

I am not a big string breaker. I currently use multifilament strings on a dense pattern Flexpoint Prestige Mid Plus. I want a touch more spin, and control out of the racquet, so I want to experiment with a new setup that will fit my needs. Since I am not a big string breaker, what kind of strings should I be looking at? For reference, I have tried KLIP Excellerator, and Technifibre Biphase both in 17g @58 and 60 pounds. I am weary of trying polyester strings because I have heard that they lose tension extremely fast. With the above info in mind, which type of string, and which brand/ model would you recommend? I am also open to trying hybrid stringing. I am really a novice when it comes to strings, so please be specific and do not use abbreviations. Thanks in advance

if you go to academy, they sell a hybrid in a package called Gamma Stinger 16/17. It gives a 16 gauge poly for the mains and a 17 gauge synthetic for the crosses. good feel for me on my liquidmetal radical which also has a dense pattern. it gives me great spin, more than i thought it would. since your not a big string breaker, im not either, you should give this set a try. its only 7.99 at my local academy. pretty good deal for a pretty good hybrid.

Multifiber strings are too lively for me, so I use a 17 ga synthetic gut with a solid core. It gives me good durability, predictable response, and nice feedback. If you want an alternative to poly, I'd try some of this. Gamma TNT2 17, LaserFibre Lasertour 17, and Gosen OG-Sheep Micro 17 are a few examples.

Thanks fuzz. Which one of those strings do you like the best? The reason I am curious about the polyester strings is because of more spin potential. Compared to the polys, do you find those synthetics to give similar spin production?

polyester strings are much more stiff. you may not even like it at all. it is not good for arms. You can try some mono-core synthetic guts at a thicker gauge, e.g. 16.

Try using poly crosses with multifilament mains or even gut mains. In my flexpoint prestige i use klip excellerator mains and klip kboom crosses. You can buy this as a hybrid package. Also try gut mains, the klip explosive hybrid package is a good place to start.

String this between 58-60. Some people suggest that poly crosses be strung looser, i havnt tested this yet.

Good luck

Thanks for that info babolatpdstandard. Tennis hand, I want to stick with 17g strings in order to get more spin. Which synthetics would you recommend in 17g?

Have you considered to take a poly with good tension stability in the mains and a synthetic gut or multifilament in the crosses? Polys are high performance strings, but are very stiff in some frames. Adding a synthetic gut or multi in the crosses will add feel and comfort.

It seems my best bet is to go with a poly cross. I am currently leaning towards spp 17l strings for the crosses. Anybody recommend something better? For the mains, should I stick with x-one biphase, or do you guys think another multi would work better, or a mono-synthetic? Keep in mind, I am going to put the poly in the crosses, and tension stability is very important because I am not a big string breaker.

Borat, thanks. I would like to first try a poly in the crosses to maintain more of a softer feel I like from the strings with a touch more control. Like I said, I am leaning towards SPP 17l for the crosses, would you recommend something else? Tension stability is very important because I am not a big string breaker. Thanks!

I made a new topic to vote on poly strings, once I decide on the poly I want, I will chose the other string to hybrid it. Thanks for the help guys

Tennisguy, If thats what you are looking for, I would reccomend putting them in the crosses. You usually get more of the playability from the mains, and the feel of the crosses. Just FYI for the future, I learned this a while back and never knew it: the mains almost always break first, even if it is a 15L poly in the mains and a 17L gut in the crosses. Topspin cyberflash 17 seems great on its own, and doesnt loose tenison. It is more of a power poly. Kirschbaum makes great polys, all of which I would consider. Many people dont break polys, they cut them out because they just die eventually. I would go for performance over anything else, even tension stability in your case. I would just try and stay away from notoriously bad strings for tension stability such as ashaway monogut. I guess what I mean is, Luxilon, Signum Pro, Topspin, they are all pretty close tension wise. Go for your favvorite feel/ play.

tennisguy,

I think you would be best to go for either klipexcellerator, or TF X-1biphase, both seem to be great multis and similar in feel to gut.

In crosses there are many different co-polys to try but at the end of the day theyl all feel similar. Try signum megaforce or ppp, TF spinfire maxipower, lux big banger alu, topspin cyber flash, klip kboom etc.
I like the look of the clear multi and silver/grey cross, dont know how good SPPP will look in orange. Anyway you can choose a poly dependent on price or brand or colour really, alot of them are similar.
