Better grass court player- Ivanisevic vs Roddick

Who was the better grass court player.

I went with Ivo. I find Roddick basically a poor mans Ivanisevic on grass. On that particular surface, Ivanisevic is better in pretty much every department except for sometimes the forehand.

Goran by a country mile. It isn't even close really. Look no further than 2001 or 1995,1998,1992, etc. Roddick never touched that level on grass

Ivanisevic of course. He played 4 Wimbledon finals and won the last of them. Roddick played 3 Wimbledon finals and, like Goran, played his best in the last of them but, unlike Goran, couldn't convert it into a title.

Roddick actually has more grasscourt titles (5) than Ivanisevic (2) but a Wimbledon title trumps all!

Well they met at Wimbledon in 2001, in the third round. Goran was playing some of the best tennis of his life. Roddick was only 18 at the time, and unseeded, but he pushed the match to 7-6 (5), 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

With these two it might come down to the type of grass. Goran on the old, Roddick on the new.

Hmm... I usually hear Goran talked about as a one-trick pony type. If anything I think he's underrated. Won an ATP tournament every year from 1990 to 1998, was top-10 six different times early in his career, won a Slam on grass, two Masters titles on carpet, had a great career at the Rome clay Masters (4 semifinal berths, 1 finals). Should be in the discussion for top 10 of the decade IMO.

This isnt a thread about better hard court player. Ivanisevic would be overrated if people said that, but I doubt that would be the case. This is asking only about better grass court player, and based on Wimbledon record and level of tennis on grass all signs points to Ivanisevic.

Who is better player would probably be Roddick. Although even that isnt a slam dunk. I would say Roddick is better than Ivanisevic in that he was a major threat at 3 of 4 slams vs 1 of 4 for Ivanisevic, but Ivanisevic is better in the sense he is better than Roddick on 3 of 4 surfaces- carpet-indoors, grass, and clay vs only hard courts for Roddick. Anyway that isnt the thread topic, which is only grass.

You're correct. The question was about grass, and Ivanisevic gets the nod because he did win one Wimbledon, and he did defeat Sampras at Wimbledon 92.
