Big 3 "pre prime" losing h2hs

2+ matches

Djokovic:
0-2 vs Safin
1-2 vs Gonzalez
1-2 vs Karlovic
4-5 vs Roddick

Nadal:
0-2 vs Corretja
1-3 vs Hrbarty

Federer:
0-3 vs Rafter
0-2 vs Squillari
1-3 vs Enqvist
2-4 vs Kafelnikov
1-2 vs Kuerten
1-2 vs Ferreira
1-2 vs Hrbarty
2-3 vs Corretja

Was this a sign of future h2h records (vs Big 3/4, field, etc)? And Djokovic's losing h2hs are probably not even that poor with how hyped his opponents are by certain members. :sneaky:

Discuss.

If you look closely you'll see that Roger never actually beat anyone on the pro tour.

His career is nothing but a billion dollar western media deception orchestrated by Craig Tiley in conjunction with Swiss Pharma.
Federer is a legend and has one of the best overall h2h records and winning percentages. (y) This thread is more comparing the Big 3. Please remain on topic.

So, what you're saying is that when Rafa and Roger were whooping Novak's ass in the early days it meant a lot because only really good players could beat him?

:-D

What is your determination of pre-prime in each of these cases anyway?

Well that’s not entirely true, he did beat a few Greeks back in the mid-2000s.

Unfortunately they shall remain nameless as their names are usually redacted on this board.

That's just an insult to Federer. He won plenty of matches.

Roger's downfall is that he tended not to be able to beat the best when they were playing at their best, at the best competitions.

Other than that, he was great.

Oh, and Federer was 0-5 against Nalbandian at one point, as well as Nalbandian having been something of a nemesis to him in the Juniors, including in the 1998 Junior US Open final.

Nadal hardly played any Junior tennis, just 2002 Junior Wimbledon (semi finalist) and 2002 Junior Davis Cup (Spain won). Nadal was thrown in to compete with lower level adult journeymen players at age 14, and some other promising youngsters.

Nadal Gaudio are 3-3, and Gaudio's last victory over Nadal was the last match of pre-prime Nadal. His career turning point (he has said so). the 2005 Buenos Aires semifinal. Gaudio won 06 60 61. I think the crowd supporting Gaudio must have gotten into Nadal's head, and what should have been his trashing of Gaudio became a trashing of him.

Post prime Roddick was putting beatdown after beatdown on Noel with ease.

Mono Roddick straight setted him at 10 Cincy LMAO. This is just before Djokovic made a historic run at the '10 USO final eclipsing defending finalist Fedr in the semi.

Low confidence, out of form Roddick straight setted Djo at 09 Montreal double LMAO. This was just before Djoel ran roughshod on the tour in the fall season and after Roddick suffered clinical depression post Wimbledon.

Adjusting to his new coach Roddick took out defending AO champ triple LMAO. Still adjusting to his new coach Roddick laid a straight set smackdown on defending IW champ quadruple LMAO.

The disparity in the head to head would be even greater if the majority of matches were played in Roddick's prime.

Djokovic is literally the reason Roddick retired...after Novak "beat him like drum" 6-1 6-2 on grass

"At the London Olympics in 2012, I was unseeded, facing Novak Djokovic in the second round. I had won two of the previous three tournaments before the Olympics and I felt that Wimbledon is the place where I can still catch lightning in a bottle and make a bit of run, feeling great at practice that week.

At that point, I had a decent record against Novak but he beat me like a drum; I felt like a child on the court, winning just three games on grass! I served average, which is never smart against Novak, but I was walking off the court thinking that I didn't play bad, he was simply that better.

At that moment, I started to think this game is getting a little bit different from what I have been used to and the guys from the top are like from another planet; that was an eye-opening moment for me."

Andy Roddick retired the same year after losing to Juan Martin Del Potro in the US Open.

I'd take Roddick's words with a grain of salt. He also said he played better in WIM 05 final than WIM 04 final lmao.

Not to mention Roddick was mostly a stand up comedian, anyway. This was clearly one of his many quotes that are designed to make us laugh.

Gaudio claimed that Nadal smashed loads of his racquets backstage afterwards. I can believe this actually, and then Toni lost his rag with Rafa, and said if Rafa smashed a racquet again, he's off and won't coach him again.

Could also be why Djokovic and Federer started closing the gap in slam head to head vs Nadal after being soundly beaten back when Nadal was in his 20s. He peaked earlier.

Interesting.
Roddick freely admitting that the Federer/Roddick/Hewitt period was vastly inferior.
