Big three should all retire with 20 slams each

Should they announce simultaneously or consecutively at AO (Novak), at Roland Garros (Rafa) and at Wimbledon (Roger) their respective retirements provided they are able to address the business side of their endorsement entities?

Or the trio of them could each collect their 21st titles at their pet grand slam (AO for Nole, RG for Rafa, and Wimbledon for Roger) and retire.

Federer won't be winning Wimbledon, at this stage it's not even a certainty he'll be playing at it. His retirement will come first, I believe.

I think Djokovic and Rafa will both be aiming for at least getting to 21 next year.

Roger is 100% finished. Rafa will retire if he can’t win RG 22. Novak will retire if he can’t win any slams in 22. Possibly earlier if he gets humiliated by the young guns.

My heart wants them to play forever. I love to hate Novak and secretly pull for Fed (which feels like treason, but I've grown to appreciate his game so much more as he ages) as I root for Rafa. But it's just won't be the same when they're all gone.

But my head knows this is the beginning of the end. It would be fantastic if they all ended with the Slam count. The conversation would never, ever stop. But it won't. Novak will win 2-4 more, Rafa one more.

Not sure if his retirement will come first but agree with you, playing at Wimbledon is not a given at his current predicament.

Agree that Rafa will aim to add one more French Open title but will retire once realizing it is a very high clearance, even for Rafa.

Novak gets humiliated by young guns, so soon? Probably not, perhaps a couple of near misses at the majors before calling it quits or until he collects number 21.

True, it will be different and weird without them, they've been dominating for far too long and they would be inflicting a disservice to themselves if they allow themselves first round exits before finally realizing they've overstayed their welcome.

If they all retired on 20 Majors that suits Federer and Nadal for sure. their respective Wimbledon and French Open records will sway thigs their way.

Djokovic should outlast Federer in terms of longevity ... physically at least.
Bear in mind, Novak is six years younger, a little over one tennis generation younger than Federer. Remember years and years ago, people thought Rafa was done with his bum knee?

However one might slice it, they will be in the same conversation because of their exact sum totals in the grand slams. Twenty is twenty.
Yes but popularity would then over time dictate who is remembered as the Greatest. Federer probably would end up with he crown as Wimbledon is the biggest Major. Then again in 20 years AO may be the biggest so who really knows.

What makes you think they would like to retire with the slam record in a triple tie, when they think they have a chance to break it?

Because perhaps they don't want to succumb their bodies to further breakdowns, they can still enjoy other sports at their leisure that they've put on hold so as to prolong their respective careers? More importantly, the record of a three way tie at 20 slams apiece would be all that much harder to break.

AO is already the fan favorite. In terms of prestige, it's another story, but then, Rafa's 13 RGs is still 4 more than Nole's AO and 5 more than Roger's Wimbledon.

If say, Nole wins AO again and Rafa at RG, I am not really sold on Roger winning another Wimbledon but instead, he might win a sixth US Open (yeah, they might need to tweak the surface just a bit).
All in all, twenty, twenty, twenty is a nice round number for the mightiest of trios ever!

if we assume that Djokal's journey will be smiliar to that of Roger's after the age of 35 then both will win another 3 slams each 8-B

i hope they all stay at 20..
what would be better is if they took one away from djoko
for some type of retroactive cheating but that probly wont happen.

Why would Novak retire at 34? Other than the fact you don't want him to break 20GS titles record?

Absolutely not, just hinting he might be less motivated going the extra mile by just telling himself he will get them the next time (but that next time keeps on piling) since Rafa and Roger are no longer in the picture.

Nadal has said many times that he'd only retire if he was no longer a slam contender.
He's clearly a slam contender, in fact even with the foot injury he played the longest set he's ever played at Roland Garros (98 minutes).
Plus what if his foot improves? Then he's even better than that 98 minute set....
