Blue Gear 1.28mm and Big Ace Micro 1.15mm

I've been hearing a lot about these string here on this forum ..has anyone tried these strings ? I've just switched from Lux Alu rough 1.25mm/Timo 1.22 to Blue gear 1.25/Big Ace 1.22 ... I am very surprised by the performance of the Pro Supex strings... the Blue Gear really bites that ball and Big Ace softens up the feel pretty good... I've been breaking the Blue Gear about the same amount of playing time as the Lux but the Big Ace cross looks like they hardly wear out...
I'm now tempted to try the Blue Gear in 1.28 to see if it can produce more spin or is this the other way around by (using 1.19)thiner strings..
Seeing Big Ace 1.22 showing pretty good life, has anyone here try the Big Ace Micro 1.15mm ? --the player profile listed above .. is a string breaker .. this set-up usually last around 12-15 hours of play...
I have a few top notch students and right now I'm trying different set-ups to find the best combination for their different style of play...I have 2 girls who I think will benefit greatly by using gut and maybe Blue Gear hybrid or full gut set-up... any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated ..

I have a reel of the 17g in Blue Gear but I prefered the 16g because of the better ball bite...Very good string in my opinion for generating spin

Blue Gear looks COOL too, except 1.15mm BA, also can try 1.17mm. Perhaps you think just 0.02mm difference, but really a big different.

Blue Gear 1.28mm

has anyone try the Blue Gear 1.28mm thickest one yet? if so was there a difference in the spin produce compared to the 1.25mm?

I've tried all the BG sizes: 1.19, 1.25 and 1.28. I've found(WAO above agrees) that the 1.28 produces the nastiest action on the ball. I think the bigger gear section helps but most likely, it's the stiffer nature of the 1.28 that does the most.

You would not think that there is much of a difference between the 1.25 and 1.28 but whereas I would happily play with the 1.28, if someone gave me a set of the 1.25, I would trade it on for something else.

It's not that the 1.25 is bad, I just find that the 1.28 does a better job in the spin department. Give both of them a shot, I think you like them.

Um...?

Great. Just as I receive my order of 1.19 and 1.25 BG to play around with...

This discussion should have happened earlier. HA!

1.25 isn't bad, it's still adds good spin to the ball. I played around with 1.25 before I bought some reels of 1.28.

WAO is right-you'll like the 1.25. It's certainly not bad. I've never used BG in my storm tour. After I work my way through my lux, I think I need to try it again.

WAO, how is that extended Extreme doing. I read your comments about the new Extreme you hit with and it sounds interesting. I've always liked those sticks-good weight as well. Have you tried the prestige pro at all?

Has anyone compared Big Ace Micro 1.15 to Blue Gear 1.28?

Does the BG win in the spin department?

What about playability and feel? Wouldn't the BAM have more of these?

Does Blue Gear 1.28 have more spin, but feel hard and stiff?
Does the Blue Gear 1.25 have better feel and less spin?

BG is better than BAM in the spin category but there is more feel available with the BAM. I prefer the BG still though, I like a stiffer stringbed and don't like the ball I produce with the BAM. I am biased towards thicker strings so bear that in mind.

why thicker strings? I have a player using BG125mm /BA122mm and the ball just flies out so fast... I've been noticing if I have him use the thicker strings,he can swing a full swing without gearing down for the control.. is this what you're seeing too?

what do you think about this set up... BG128mm(mains)/Maxim 130mm(cross).? I'm already stringing the BG125/BA122 at 64lbs in the K=blade 98 what tension is the new set up gonna be ? 66Lbs ? too tight...in a 98 frame(18X20) pattern..

SoCal, I think your observation on the thick strings is correct in my case. I use the Pure storm tour which is quite soft-I string my poly low tension in the low 50's in the summer but I like using the thick poly as I can really swing away. Some people like using thin poly at high tension but I like using thick poly at low tension so go figure...LOL

Also for me, thin poly feels very insubstantial and I don't feel I get as much action or weight on the ball. That's just my perception at least.

I enjoyed using BA 1.22 but the control just was not as good for me. The BG 1.28/ Max touch 1.30 would be a really nice setup but I would drop the tension a bit to compensate for the thicker string as well as that tight pattern on the Kblade. That hybrid really works well with a nice combo of control and power. You will not believe how much more action you get with the 1.28 over the 1.25. Please let me know how it goes.

PED,

That's okay; I am biased in favor of thinner strings. Thanks for your frank opinion. Does BG 1.28 play hard and stiff?

It plays IMO stiffer than BA. I am restringing one of my sticks with BA/MT and the other with my normal hybrid BG/MT for a comparision.

WAO, let me know how the comparison goes. I think I could easily still play with BG but BA won't work for me.

I love Blue Gear. I use the 17g in my mains (hybrid with X-1) and the spin/bite is great.

Actually will string them up in the new Extreme Pro's. Playing this weekend so will let you know my thoughts. But you know me I like the BG 1.28..
