I didnt realize this was the standard week for davis cup, since it was during winter this last year.

Davis Cup used to be over like 5 weeks. Now it's 2. The qualifying stage this week and the final stage at the end of the season.
There are 35 Davis Cup ties this Friday and Saturday across 6 continents. Probably the single busiest week of the tennis calendar with at least 6 of the top 20 in action. Not in terms of the total players involved, but certainly the amount of simultaneous and widespread action.

i was wondering what decides if a country has to play the qualifying phase (in their soccer-contaminated new format), and......
The Finals will feature 16 teams:
- 12 qualifiers - the winners of the Davis Cup Qualifiers taking place on 4-5 March 2022
- The previous year’s finalists - Russian Tennis Federation and Croatia
- Two wild card nations - Great Britain and Serbia

i see that as completely contradictory to the spirit of the davis cup...(unless they're supposed to be some of the host nations for the final phase, but... are they?)
