Boring first week of March

Please excuse my ignorance, I only started following tennis mid 2021.

How come we had 10 ATP tourneys in february, and have nothing going on for the next week and a half? Is this standard schedule?

With an 11-month season, the players need some downtime.

So it is intentional by ATP to not schedule any tourneys this week before 2 masters?

I just assumed players rested as needed since participation is not necessarily required

Is participation not required anymore? Players used to have a minimum number of M1000s.

It's Davis Cup week. The ATP doesn't play any tournaments during that week. I believe those matches are played Friday-Sunday, iirc. For a lot of people, though, yeah it's a week off.

It's just not the same...something needed to change. But why did it have to be DC?

I didnt realize this was the standard week for davis cup, since it was during winter this last year.

There are 35 Davis Cup ties this Friday and Saturday across 6 continents. Probably the single busiest week of the tennis calendar with at least 6 of the top 20 in action. Not in terms of the total players involved, but certainly the amount of simultaneous and widespread action.

Depends where you are: https://www.daviscup.com/en/news/323069.aspx

I thought they had their own streaming service but I don't see that at the moment.
i was wondering what decides if a country has to play the qualifying phase (in their soccer-contaminated new format), and......

The Finals will feature 16 teams:
- 12 qualifiers - the winners of the Davis Cup Qualifiers taking place on 4-5 March 2022
- The previous year’s finalists - Russian Tennis Federation and Croatia
- Two wild card nations - Great Britain and Serbia

from: https://www.daviscup.com/en/draws-results/finals/2022.aspx

'WC nations', really? :censored: i see that as completely contradictory to the spirit of the davis cup...
(unless they're supposed to be some of the host nations for the final phase, but... are they?)

PS: do we add it to murray's already well-furnished collection? ;)
