So yeah, all my research leads me to believe this racket was never actually sold to the general public. Adidas had their 2009 comeback party that no one attended (though I maintain the Barricade/Barricade Tour rackets aren't really that bad, the infamy came from such a big company giving up so quickly and the rackets being nothing remarkable). For 2010, there was going to be a re-skinning of the Barricade into the Barricade 2. From what I can see from the handful that have popped up on that auction site, it appears to be the exact same racket as 2009 with a new red/white paint job... so why buy that? I already own that model.
Then they had the Adipure Court lined up for 2010, looks to be similar to the Barricade but slightly lighter in weight. A few of these have popped up as well. Some guy in Japan somehow got them, and is asking top dollar for all of them despite not playing up the fact they were never widely released. Odd.
Both prototype rackets had full specs released and stock photos produced, with a few floating around, its possible a tiny production run was actually made, who knows? Adidas certainly pulled the plug early on if so.
Later, halfway across the world, another Adidas racket prototype shows up, and this one, I can't find a single bit of info about, except a text description about what the IES system is supposedly supposed to do.
("Introducing the Integrated Energy System (IES). The IES provides energy where it's needed most: in the middle of the racket where the ball is hit. This racket is equipped with special carbon fibre at strategic points on the frame that add stiffness to the racket and provide more power and control. In addition to the IES, this model also features adiGrip which creates a greater vibration dampening and a softer touch.")
I assume this racket was to be called the Adidas Barricade IES. It's got a larger headsize than any other at about 107-110 if I'm eyeballing it next to similarly sized heads. Unlike the rest of the Adidas rackets of this generation, it lacks any info printed on the throat, maybe the final production version would have had it? I bet it would have been sold for less than the flagship barricade I'm assuming, its a little rough around the edges, but perhaps that's due to its preproduction nature. I doubt many people here really care that much about these rackets, but as a long time Adidas soft goods fan I find these rackets highly fascinating.
Tons o pics!
Looks - decent, overall. Not quite the looker the 09 Barricade was.
same branding design as the other Barrys.
Is the IES System up here?
Or maybe this is the IES system?
Maybe its down here?
Gotta say - love this buttcap. 10/10 cool
I have yet to hit with the thing, it just got to me last night, but I'll update once I've hit with it.
whaddya think?
