Bought an unreleased Adidas Prototype because I'm a dumb hipster.

So yeah, all my research leads me to believe this racket was never actually sold to the general public. Adidas had their 2009 comeback party that no one attended (though I maintain the Barricade/Barricade Tour rackets aren't really that bad, the infamy came from such a big company giving up so quickly and the rackets being nothing remarkable). For 2010, there was going to be a re-skinning of the Barricade into the Barricade 2. From what I can see from the handful that have popped up on that auction site, it appears to be the exact same racket as 2009 with a new red/white paint job... so why buy that? I already own that model.

Then they had the Adipure Court lined up for 2010, looks to be similar to the Barricade but slightly lighter in weight. A few of these have popped up as well. Some guy in Japan somehow got them, and is asking top dollar for all of them despite not playing up the fact they were never widely released. Odd.

Both prototype rackets had full specs released and stock photos produced, with a few floating around, its possible a tiny production run was actually made, who knows? Adidas certainly pulled the plug early on if so.
Later, halfway across the world, another Adidas racket prototype shows up, and this one, I can't find a single bit of info about, except a text description about what the IES system is supposedly supposed to do.
("Introducing the Integrated Energy System (IES). The IES provides energy where it's needed most: in the middle of the racket where the ball is hit. This racket is equipped with special carbon fibre at strategic points on the frame that add stiffness to the racket and provide more power and control. In addition to the IES, this model also features adiGrip which creates a greater vibration dampening and a softer touch.")

I assume this racket was to be called the Adidas Barricade IES. It's got a larger headsize than any other at about 107-110 if I'm eyeballing it next to similarly sized heads. Unlike the rest of the Adidas rackets of this generation, it lacks any info printed on the throat, maybe the final production version would have had it? I bet it would have been sold for less than the flagship barricade I'm assuming, its a little rough around the edges, but perhaps that's due to its preproduction nature. I doubt many people here really care that much about these rackets, but as a long time Adidas soft goods fan I find these rackets highly fascinating.

Tons o pics!

Looks - decent, overall. Not quite the looker the 09 Barricade was.

Had some sort of green/black pairs with the silver stripes, but unsure if they were the 6s, maybe?

Climalite? Is that 2010 well then kudos for no wash in order to preserve!

@kevin qmto ,

The hoop profiles are interesting. That first one's hoop looks like a mini Pure Aero sort of profile The PST Tour looks like a take off of Wilson's PWS.

Some sort of powerbands on the Tour hoop - power structure technology - do they work?
A guy I met recently at our local court was using one of these. He maintained that he couldn't hit well because his racket was "too old". I tried it out and it really felt generally bad. Sort of like a kids racket from a general sports store. However he bought a new Radical and didn't improve at all. In disgust he went back to his old Adidas.
Essentially I'm saying the bands don't seem to do anything.

I remember when Adidas came out with those racquets a number of years ago. They looked nice but the specs were not what I needed in a racquet. I did not demo any and the price was very high when they first came out but once they were on clearance they were a decent price. Yet, not something I wanted to play with, spec wise.

I like the feel of the Tour. Personally it’s currently my 2nd favorite racket to use when I feel like playing ‘serious’ tennis.

serious for me is just actually playing games with my usual partner instead of just hitting for an hour and a half.

I used to play with the old Adidas Lendl type racquets during my yought because al lot of known good players in my country used it back then. However we didnt know then that Lendl played a paintjob with the upper hoop full of lead. Afterall he was the terminator.:alien:

I honestly just have a bunch of unused Adidas clothes from years ago, my HS team had an adidas soft goods partnership and I got like a whole box full of shirts/shorts that were left over, I still have some left lol.

Just restrung this Barricade IES with some blue Gamma jet polys at 55lbs, just some white syn gut in the crosses. Hits pretty solid now gotta say. Took some new pics in my still life photo studio.

Found a 2010 Barricade on the bay. Asked the seller where and how they got this, but they weren't much help. They responded: "This was my sons racket, he got it through his college when he played for them (did not say what college had the Adidas deal). He seemed to like it well enough but he had a lot of rackets."

So this is the other paint job of the 2010 Barricade that never was (or at least, wasn't mass produced). Still has the original factory stencil on it. (mine above was custom made). The stats on the throat seem to have been copy pasted over from the 2009 model, but I'm not positive they're accurate, as this stick should be identical to my 09 one, except its 15g lighter. Will play test it soon.

They even had their own factory string for this one. Interesting, as all the 09 production Barricades came unstrung. I think it's a poly string. Too bad its been in the frame for at least 13 years now.
