I mean 10 rounds of brain damage

I did box in college but I refused to compete and left the club

some odd stuff happenin' in boxing.

Jarrell Miller's Tour de France preparations have been derailed as got caught on a cocktail of three different PEDs. Bye bye to you. So who knows who AJ's next opponent will be instead. Supposedly, several fighters have declined, and it's tempting to think the only explanation is that they're juiced and don't have the time to clean up.

GGG back on the scene as well, not all flattering. First he announced that his next fight will be Steve Rolls (who??), and now it's come out that he and Abel Sanchez have split, apparently over money/salary after that sweet DAZN deal.

Usyk will officially make his heavyweight debut against Takam on May 25, which is excite.

Next week, Canelo–Jacobs in Vegas. Time for another tasty controversy? Or Cinnamon sledgehammer to leave all questions decisively answered?

Anyone gonna watch Canelo–Jacobs tonight / morrow morning? I am debating myself as to whether I'm gonna try to wake up early for it.

Pretty good match-up, in terms of style I enjoy both of them.

In terms of the whole package, I'm not gonna lie, I hope Jacobs massively derails dat $500m contract DAZN money train.

Clenelo is the clear odds favorite going in, and I do think he will win for three main reasons: a) he's the slightly more polished fighter, b) he has the lesser chance of being rocked in this match-up, and c) even if Jacobs matches him, judges will probably still give him the nod.

All that said, Jacobs might be underestimated. Just style-wise, he might be a worse match-up for Canelo than GGG was. Gennady likes to pressure forward, which works perfect for Canelo's counterpunching. Jacobs on the other hand will no doubt try to use his size advantage and footwork to keep Canelo more at distance. The few times Álvarez – whose footwork isn't all that – has fought elite movers, he's struggled a lot (Mayweather, Lara, maybe Trout). Jacobs doesn't have the same elusiveness and defensive discipline as those guys, but on the flip side, he does have more size and power. This preview argues the betting value is on Jacobs.

I'm hyped for this one and must stay up to watch.

It's times like this where I can say things are OK. BT sports charging PPV for Crawford vs Khan and this one is with your regular Sky Sports package. Pretty much saying that I could be persuaded to get this one on PPV. Am I now overselling Canelo? haha What has happened to this Golovkin fan?

Canelo saying Jacobs antics came out of fear. He must be forgetting his antics before the second Golovkin fight. Of course, one key difference at the minute, Canelo won and his antics didn't come out of fear.

I quite like Jacobs as well. What I'm expecting is a clear win for Canelo. (even on people like us scorecards.)

Ended up deciding that I needed a good night's continuous sleep, so I didn't wake up for this one.

Judging by the highlights and summaries, I don't I think I missed a life-changing event.

WBA/WBC middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KOs) outworked IBF champion Daniel Jacobs (35-3, 29 KOs) in beating him by a less than crowd pleasing 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night in the main event on DAZN at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The scores were 115-113, 115-113, and 116-112. Boxing News 24 had Canelo winning 116-112.

Looked like it was a disciplined and solid performance from both sides, though, even if a bit reticent. Result appears to not be in controversy, which is good, given the sport's recent history.

Gotta wonder whether Canelo can currently be toppled at middleweight. Who's left? Jacobs is down. I don't give Andrade much of a chance. Saunders would've been a stylistic pain in the arse, but he's lost his ways. Charlo? Don't think so. I think Golovkin arguably beat him twice (with nothing to show for it), but looks like he won't get another chance till 2020, by which time he'll be ancient and will lose likely without controversy.

No, I say it's time to feed him to another guy who fought last night, Beterbiev:happydevil: Guy is an animal. OK, step too far, but maybe he can pose a legit challenge to one of the legit 168 titlists. Dunno.

stay up for it?

Looks like your prediction turned out pretty much spot on.

some more or less noteworthy bouts took place last night.

Josh Taylor got it done versus Baranchyk and progresses to the final of the super series.

Billy Joe Saunders made his return, jumping up to the 168 division, and had few problems obtaining the belt.

Joe Joyce got Ustinov out of there in three, but still looks slow and plodding.

Inoue once more lived up to his 'Monster' moniker and did this:

And Wilder once again made his case for having potentially the most explosive punch in the documented era. Right up there.

BJS looked so slick even after 14 months out.
Got rocked a bit but that was minor

But how about that KO from wilder...

Inoue is pure video game magic. So exciting.

So is Wilder's power. I'm glad he got rid of Breazeale in double quick double time. Make that statement. Has Joshua vs Wilder been marinated enough? ;P Of course, you hear the usual no excuses it has to be done. Providing Joshua gets the job done next. Before some mandatory comes out of nowhere and the fight never happens.

Idiot Joshua got cocky in round three after that punch. Wanted to finish him like wilder did. Ruiz had other plans. Credit to Ruiz though. Has a solid chin and everytime he got hit, countered and went crazy on Joshua.

Joshua ain’t happening until wilder loses now imo. Wilder has everything to lose. Opposite for Joshua. And seeing how he handled the counter craziness of Ruiz, wilder would pummel him

AJ got exposed in similar fashion to Giannis, but the nature of his defeat was even worse.

That was a humiliation... and it sets up one hell of a narrative for the rematch. AJ gets by on power and an unfinished patchwork of fundamentals, but lacks skill and a natural "fighting sense" in the manner that Vitaly and Lennox had it, and indeed Wilder and Fury.

Really didn't see that one coming, must admit. AJ has his flaws and can be stiff, but I've considered him to be disciplined and tidy and responsible in there. And the little of Ruiz I've seen was obviously better than the packaging promises, but nothing insane. So it was surprising to see AJ be the first of the big ones to fail in this way. Would rather have expected it from the headless Wilder who's been put in trouble by mediocre boxers before. With AJ being this bloody susceptible to counters, a potential Wilder fight looks less favorable for him than it ever did, too.

But I guess it does happen. Shades of Lewis–Rahman. Then again, very different. Wlad got put on his arse a couple of times in the days of his younger and more reckless dominance too.

AJ very humble in defeat, props to that. Props to Andy Ruiz Jr. for getting up from the canvas, doggedly plodding forward, and becoming the first ever Mexican heavyweight champ.

Not in this fight.

The big money is in Joshua winning. He's the biggest cash cow in the division, backed by big cash cows. Now, his stock has gone down. The huge earning potential of a Joshua–Wilder (or Joshua–Fury) fight has taken a hit. The aura of that fight isn't quite the same now compared to if they were both these undefeated monsters.

The lesson here is to make big fights when you can make them. They always want to milk them to the point of ridiculousness: "let them just get one more easy win first, then the demand for the fight will grow even bigger." Well guess what, eventually one of the fighters involved will fok up. I just assumed that this was more likely to be Wilder (and to some extent, he did vs. Fury).

There is an element of fixing involved of course, but tends to be in favor of the cash cows. It's hard to not see Wilder being gifted the draw against Fury as a kind of fix. Likewise, Canelo may never lose another decision, because there's so much money involved in him winning.

What happened with Joshua wasn't that he took a dive. After he hurt Ruiz, he got a bit reckless and probably wanted to make a statement to match Wilder's big knockout of Breazeale. Then he got caught with a big shot behind his ear which messed up his equilibrium, and he never really recovered from that. Unsteady legs for the rest of the night.

imagine that Ruiz beats AJ again in the rematch and Fury schools Wilder over the new year, and Andy Ruiz and Tyson Fury end up fighting for the undisputed and the lineal title.

imagine.

Eddie can learn a thing or 2 from Oscar on the art of marinating. Don't put your man in with a replacement fighter that is doing more than coming for a pay day. This was legit Mexican drama show style baby. :p Not exactly a Joseph Parker. Messed up big time when so much was at steak. mmmmmmm.

@Vcore89

Looks like Andy Ruiz Jr took the Michael Spinks approach and it worked this time.

I guess there wasn't much choice after Miller got scooped. They had to get AJ out there for his USA debut. It does suck in terms of the biggest fight there was. Sysyphus mentions the aura above and yeah, now it's just not the same. Kind of like when Pacman lost (officially this time) to Marquez. He did finally get it on with Mayweather later but you felt he lost something against Marquez.

Only Pretty Boy has a proper Ph.D. in the Dark Arts of Marination, so there's that. Gotta admit this 4288 ounces of steak is no archetypal stumblebum, he literally mothawhacked AJ. Won't be surprised though if AR succumbs to a right cross while confidently sashaying his fat and fit frame next time he steps in the ring.

Was reading an article that about once a decade one of these crazy WH upsets happen.

I don't keep up on Boxing but know it makes zero sense for the promoters to have the 2 best fighters fight each other in their prime, especially when they are undefeated. One of them is going to lose the fight and his impact on the gate and PPVs at the same time.

All but a few end up losing eventually and the money is in keeping them unbeaten with worthy challengers for as long as possible and then have the dream fight when there are in the twilight of their careers.

Pac vs Money would have been a better fight years before it happened, but it would not have made the money. The only way it makes more money is if Pac didn't get housed.

Gennady Golovkin, geared with a new trainer and a personal chef, has moved on from his diet of Cinnamon Rolls over to a new kind of dish: the legendary, formidable, fearsome Steve Rolls.

From what I can see and read, GGG looked somewhat rusty and sloppy initially, but he stepped up a few gears and dished up a vintage highlight-reel KO in the 4th.

Do we get the trilogy fight in September? Do we want it? Is G past it, or does he have one last bit of bravado left in him, to knock out Canelo and Oscar on the same night on Mexican independence day?

Some fights went down last night.

Fury v. Schwarz was a mismatch that probably shouldn't have been made. Nevertheless, Fury (to the extent that you can judge anything from this) looked very sharp, much better than in his bumfests before the Wilder fight. So I think it's safe to say that he is starting to feel comfortable and settle into his body after the long layoff. Looked to have a bit more power behind his punches, and you can watch him enter the matrix at 9:50 here. Gotta back him to take care of business when he rematches Windmill.

Briedis v. Glowacki was a complete ****show. Rabbit punches, elbow from Briedis, both guys fighting 10 secs after the bell in front of a seemingly deaf ref. Wild. Should've been ruled a 'no contest'.

In an otherwise so-so fight, Dorticos made a highlight reel KO of Tabiti.

Interesting. Usyk has been ordered as the WBO mandatory for the winner of the Ruiz–Joshua rematch. That is a very quick title shot for the Ukrainian, I hope he gets a good acclimation match at heavyweight before that. Have long been very interested in seeing how he does at heavyweight. Honestly would see him handling Ruiz much better than Joshua did. Styles makes fights, and I don't see current fighters at Usyk's height or shorter beating him given his style and technique. But I suppose Joshua is still the mild favorite to win the Ruiz rematch. Joshua–Usyk is an interesting fight because of the discrepancies in size and skill.

In other news, negotiations are on to make GGG–Canelo III, but they have reportedly stalled because Golovkin (understandably) wants the fight held outside of Vegas during the third go-around.
