Bryan Brother's racquet question

Okay so it seems like the brothers are using the Prince Ignite Team and my question is how do they lead up their racquet to such specs like:

Bob: Weight-368 g, Balance- 31.6 cm, Swingweight- 362
Mike: Weight- 365 g, Balance- 32 cm, Swingweight- 369

from

Prince Ignite Team: Weight- 311 g, Balance- 34 cm, Swingweight 334

does anyone know or have experience in customizing racquets? I would like to know because I might purchase one but my favorite specs are something like 368g, 33cm, 356sw and am having a hard time figuring it out on the tw university customization worksheet

Well I thought if I got the lighter version of the frame it'd be easier to achieve my specs but was I mistaken??

Am i Insane or what but HOW does the BRyans Volley with a Stick that has SW in 360's ????????? Doesn't their arm fall off ? or get hit by balls traveling 100 MPH ?

well Fedace 31.6cm and 32cm is around 6 to 9 pts head light right? plus they are pro's with amazing hand eye coordination and fast hands and didn't pistol pete use a racquet with an even balance and a crap load of lead at 3 and 9 sooo I think they're fine ;)

NO, he didn't ! Common misconception though.
He used a heavy heavy head...but an even heavier handle ... if you know what I mean.

Are you sure about those numbers? I can understand a singles player using a heavy frame with a high SW, but doulbes players? Can't imagine that much inertia to overcome when playing at the net.

Sure. They do start from pro stock frames with different specs, but it's easy enough to get to their final specs from a retail frame. Go here and enter the stock specs under "What I Have" and the Bryan specs under "What I Want". For example (I just checked), to get Mike's specs from the Ignite Team, adding 15.5g at 22.8" from the butt and 38.5g at 2.4" will do it. If you don't want to find a way to get that much weight into the handle, you could try starting with the non-Team version instead.

so wait it doesn't it matter if I don't use weight at 3 and 9 and 7" above the handle or 12 and buttcap? if I just put the lead where that tool tells me it'll still play like the specs I have on my k90? (which by the way is polarized)

If you enter the specs of what racquet you're starting with under "What I Have" and those of the K90 (or one of the Bryans' racquets, or whatever) under "What I Want", you'll match the weight, balance, and swingweight of the desired racquet.

It still may not "play like" the desired racquet because there are other racquet characteristics besides weight, balance, and swingweight (for example: head size, stiffness, flex pattern, vibration damping, twistweight, weight distribution) that may be different in the racquet you're trying to duplicate. However, for stuff like seeing what you need to do to match multiple racquets of the same make & model, or seeing if you can play with the same specs as the Bryan bros, the customization tool is hard to beat.

They actually use the PRO Ignite Team - which is not even available for sale in USA - their model is also extended length 27.5 and swings nothing like the Ignite team.
Oh alright thanks guys this of great information I'm going to try that tool out now thanks

I have seen photos showing their racquets are 18x20.

Got pix? That would make it different than the 16x18 EXO3 Ignite Team 95.

well I got them from here:
http://www.hdtennis.com/grs/pro_racquet_specs/2009bnp_paribas_open.html

but it makes me think maybe they bumped up their swingweight because the exo3 racquets do swing fast and are maneuverable compared to their wilson racquets

Could be something to that. I know that I can move the SP Black much faster than its SW would indicate. Perhaps the ExO3 Ignite rackets are just as aerodynamic as their older SP Black racquets. But you do have to get the racquet moving first (due to the interia of the high SW) before you get the effects of the aerodynamics of the frame.

2 of my 4 PresMids are in the 360's in terms of swingweight.... but they are each 11-12pts. HL making them unusually maneuverable.

The bryan bros. are probably in that same range.. 8-10pts.HL

Yeah I was thinking that because I know when you look at the old review of the SP Black they have an interview with chris stating that they added more weight then usual because they swing so fast through the air

i took some photos of the bryan brothers sticks and i am pretty sure they had 27.5" written on them... might explain the high swingweight.

edit: nevermind.. i see now that GAVNA already mentioned the XL custom ignite previously. oops.

Remember that the Bryans have good volley skills. That means that swing weight plays less of a role in their volleys than it would on their ground strokes. The don't swing at the volleys.

The weight is good to help control hard hit shots. They can block them back without the racquet twisting as much when the ball isn't caught center of the strings.

^ Even if the Bryans don't swing at volleys, the interia (static weight) and the moment of inertia (related to the SW) still play a part in the ability to manuever the racket. But then their ability to read & reflex are superhuman.
