Call what it is...Fed CHOKED!

It seemed like Fed really stepped it up in the fifth set until 5-3, 40-30. After Novak hit his somewhat lucky return for a winner, Fed SUCKED. He couldn't get serves in. He overhit, he didn't move his feet and he got broke again.

While his frustration over Novak's return is understandable, he needs to focus on his overhitting, poor footwork, inability to get serves in, etc. In all the grand slam matches he's lost over the last two years, he's choked in most of them--including Del Potro in '09, Novak last year, Novak this year, Berdych in 2010 and even a little against Nadal in some of his losses to him.

I think Federer is the greatest player of all time, but he's shown some mental weakness in BIG matches in the later years of his career. That's just the truth. Fed needs to own his choking. Yesterday, he didn't.

We know he choked. but that's what happens when you get old and your skills are declining. you choke when you should be in the Zone.

That was an incredible return by Djokovic down double match point, one of the best points ever in that circumstance. Federer had a great serve on match point up 40-30, he hit a great body serve which Djoker barely got a racquet on it and landed short and Federer somehow couldn't keep the ball in the court. He had a chance right there to put the ball away and win the match. What is Federer thinking losing this match, he should be ashamed of himself.

He did that so much yesterday, and nearly every time it was an overhit, crappy shot. I can't understand it.

he is too much of a choker for one of best player ever title

That does not make any sense. Yeah lets judge Federer based on the losses that he took at the age of 30.

This comment is just as ******** as people claiming that Nadal has too little talent for an all time great when they compare him to Federer, Sampras, Borg, Laver etc.

Federer should be proud that he is a choker who managed to break a ton of records.Good riddance that Federer is a choker. 16 slams for a crybaby choker is absolutely wonderful.

Nadal should be proud that he is a moonballing grinder who won 10 slams and does not have any talent like Nalbandian and Safin. Who the hell needs talent when you can win almost a dozen more slams than those guys?

that doesn't change the fact that he is a choker

it is wonderful that Federer is a choker. 16 major titles. 17 masters series events. 5 year end championships. 286 weeks at number 1.Roger Federer is the best choker in tennis history. All those mental warriors should be ashamed of themselves for letting that choker cry baby show them up on the stat sheet.

I think Fed choked way before the 5th set. In the 3rd and 4th sets he wasn't even going for winners, i.e. neutral shots, and they were going in the net. Really weak stuff. Then he waited for the 5th set to really turn it up. Why wait?

Fed has the tendency to choke against some big hitters last few years.. You can see clearly in the 3rd, 4th and 5th sets his strokes are not confidence as 1st, 2nd set.. if he could hold that 1st game in the 3rd set he will win the match in 3 sets but after 4 or 5 deuces he lost serve.. then he started choking..

I'm a huge Fed fan and I too think he choked this one away, right from set 3. He seemed to get it back in the 5th but then that return sent him reeling again to lose 4 straight games. The lucky return was only one point. The result was 4 straight games...choke.

I think he sort of 'implicitly' admitted to choking in his presser by saying "We all saw what happened out there." Maybe not though...maybe there was something else out there he wanted us to see. If not though, this was as close an admission we'll get.

It's too bad really. Good for Djoko though to have the cajones to step it up when needed, after that "I'm no longer in this match" return.
