Ok, i remember i saw this pic (thanks to poster UKT, this is one of his pics he posted on another thread) a while ago and thought that those things looked pretty nifty. Now i've got a few questions.

a) what are they?
b) what do they do?
c) where can i get them?
d) can i get them fitted on my new LM Prestige Mid

it's a power pad... it's black leather... they dampen the racquet a bit but their real use is to increase string durability... they're kind of obsolete nowadays but pros like safin and fed have used it all their lives so they stick with it because they're used to the feel. when you're stringing, stick a folded peice of leather in before you tigthen the strings...

btw is safin using head tape all around his racquet? or is that on the racquet?

they look more like an extension of the grommet rather than an addition, also, why does he have them only on the 6 o'clock position? shouldn't they be all the way around the frame to ensure a more even feel?

because it's not for a feel thing... power pads were used with wood racquets... players who grew up using them will not be used to the feel of vibration dampeners or not having any dampening so they will keep the pads. why are they not all around? because I don't think it'll do much... do we put vibration dampenrs on the head and sides? it just looks like an extension of the grommet because it's black and the grey string outlines it so that it looks like a plastic, but it's just leather.

maybe you can try finding a belt with quite a bit of excess to it... you can cut off a strip where it connects to the buckle...

lessens the angles of the strings... this is talking about woodies... with the nice grommet systems of today, power pads are pretty much obsolete except for the feel if you prefer it.

These look like thick power pads. If you want to know for sure, Post your question titled “Question for Grant Morgan” in the Pros' Racquets and Gear section.
