Do main rivals have to be ATG's? I don't think so. Fed played Roddick in 4 slam finals, and about 8-9 slam matches. No opponent like that has ever not been considered a main rival in the history of tennis.

They're not even his generation. He didn't get dominated by Hewitt or Roddick or Safin.
The man who has record like this in the biggest matches against his biggest rivals, can't be the Goat. Imagine Michael Jordan losing all those duels to Karl Malone, or Kasparov being dominated by Karpov. It's not a good look for Federer this one, I'm tellin ya.

Henman used to be a nightmare matchup for Federer, it was 6-1 to Henman at one point. There were a lot of players who had solid H2H's against Federer at one point, Nalbandian was 5-0, Hewitt was 7-2, Agassi was 3-0, Henman was 6-1 to name just a few. Federer started to turn it around, it was quite something watching him slowly turn those H2H's in his favor.

Been some choking business in some of the tournaments you mentioned. Like lose the match with a DF which is probably the most spectacular way to choke.

It's more like if Jordan had lost duels to Kobe & LeBron. Except he didn't have to deal with that like Federer has. If Roddick was a weak era mug for never getting over the top and beating Federer, then Malone & Stockton are too and Jordan's wins over them shouldn't be impressive.Imagine Michael Jordan losing all those duels to Karl Malone, or Kasparov being dominated by Karpov. It's not a good look for Federer this one, I'm tellin ya.
And he also got his teeth kicked in by the Pistons for years before his breakthrough. Bulls didn't start dominating the East until that team got too old and broke up.

I'm not a Fed fan! Actually, I find myself cheering for the 'third one' most of the timesObjectivity of Fed fans at it's best...
My post was kind of a joke, however... I think there can be no GOAT, but if there has to be one I guess I'd prefer a creative, attacking, elegant player who made us all dream of playing like him, and not a consistency-is-all robot-like player (this is an intentional naive extremisation and depends on personal preferences, but is by no means intended to say one is objectively better than the other! I absolutely give the deserved credit to all the big 3 as ATGs).
This is a feeling that arises from my own love for the sport and not from supporting a specific player (which in case would be the 'third one')

Well you don't have to do it for every single player, just so called contenders for this idiotic acronym. Remember also please, aside from the 2014 one, none of these are eve of battle declarations you'd expect from any top contender for a title, they're early season announcements of intent. Look forward to reading it.
