Cash and son headline doubles

FORMER Wimbledon champion Pat Cash and his son Daniel Kristiansen will headline the doubles at the Kia International tennis tournament in Wollongong tomorrow.
Cash, 40, and Kristiansen, 19, will take on unseeded Australian pair Raphael Durek and Alun Jones in the first round of the futures tournament at Beaton Park.
In a major coup for the $US15,000 ($A20,300) event, Cash will be the oldest player on court but easily the most recognisable.
"It's always good to have players like Pat Cash playing in an event," tournament director Alicia Berry told AAP tonight.
"It's great but he will definitely be the oldest player in the draw.
"That's not to say he won't be able to mix it with the younger players.
"They're all looking forward to the opportunity of playing Pat."
Cash qualified for the main draw of doubles after playing a challenger event in India last year.
His manager Brian Levine said he knew nothing about the two-time Australian Open finalist's motivations for playing on the satellite circuit.
But Berry believes Cash has entered to support his son.
"Pat will be providing on-court coaching as his doubles partner and helping with his mental game," she added.
"The motivation is helping his son become a better player."
Asked whether she was surprised that Cash had signed up for the event, Berry replied:
"Not really. I knew that he was around."
Cash had two children – Daniel and Mia – with Norwegian model Anne-Britt Kristiansen before having twins with now ex-wife Emily.
Daniel, who learnt his tennis in Norway, would've been born around the same time Cash was crowned Wimbledon champion in 1987.
The teenager has no international ranking and missed out on qualifying for the singles main draw in Wollongong. Lucky loser Martijn Van Haasteren of the Netherlands received a main draw berth into the men's singles following the withdrawal of top seed Nathan Healey (left calf strain).
