I know I am jumping the gun but if Rafa can win Australian open then with Rg up next in normal circumstances he will have huge chances of being 3 back to back and then wimbledon would be the one he needs to win, novak did it by completing it at his worst slam ,can rafa do it(wimbledon is his worst slam in past 7-8 years)

AO is the hardest task by far. Now that Federer is dead, on grass it’s really only Djokovic who is on par with Nadal. Can you imagine anyone but Djokovic beating Nadal next Wimbledon? I can’t.

At AO low-skill cavemans like Thiem and Zverev can thrive and go toe to toe with Nadal. And Djokovic at AO is obviously 3x tougher than Djokovic at Wimbledon.

We need a miracle to pull an illusive 2nd AO.

So are we going to talk about FOUR IN A ROW immediately everytime someone wins a slam now? It seems to pop up every single time. And even if you talk about it, it doesn't include the US Open anyway.

If only. Rafa would need a draw to seriously go his way for another AO. It's not impossible, but I wouldn't count on it. And Wimbledon is always tricky in the first week, again, he'd need a good draw/some people to go out. Also not impossible, but to have that happen twice in exactly those tournaments in the same year and also count on him not getting injured/tired/what have you...yeah, no, that's not going to happen. Fun to think about though!

You have to be kidding right? Even an in-form baby-gen like Sinner can beat Nadal next Wimbledon.

This is jumping the gun - best to take it one at a time and not underestimate the significant mental and physical pressure of such an achievement.

Australian Open and Wimbledon will be extremely tough no doubt.

A Grand Slam is to win ALL slam events. In other words, if he doesn't win the US Open, it's four in a row but not a NCYGS. So Rafa would need to win all four next year, which would be a CYGS anyway. And I think that's highly unlikely.

Regardless of what happened yesterday, Novak will still be the favourite if they meet at the AO and is the most likely to win it. He's also far more likely to win Wimbledon too. Rafa hasn't won either in a decade. It's very unlikely he wins both.

He lost to Gilles Muller in 2017. 2018 and 2019 were much better showings for him though

and I do wish I was living in 2015, yes..

Honestly, the Muller match was the beginning of Rafa's resurgence on grass, imho.

Muller was a solid top 30 player whose game was suited to grass. He played the match of his life against Nadal, and it went to 15-13 in the 5th set. That was actually a great match by Nadal against an inspired opponent. And it gave him confidence that his grass game was getting back to a high level. I don't see the Muller loss like his other Wimby losses to much lower ranked opponents.

Thiem - a low skill caveman? Lol. He is one best shotmakers out there. He better than Nadal on hard courts these days.

Yeah I watched that whole match and he played pretty well, but Müller was hitting huge serves and closing the net down hitting winners.

I wonder who's better at their profession, Thiem or yourself. What are your skills?
