This is nonsense.

The guy skipped the press conference. That was the right venue to deliver a "classy apology". Not on instagram, once he got on his private jet.

He just doesn't get it, and never will. He's a spoiled, arrogant primadonna who thinks he's bigger than the sport. The most unlikable man in tennis.

And sorry to all the Djokovic stans who will hate me for saying this, but a lot of neutrals will feel the same way.

Hitting the lines woman was unintentional, and thankfully she is ok as I wouldn't like to take a tennis ball to the throat that's for sure. I'm glad Novak has apologised publicly and I'm sure he will be doing so to many people in private also. Now I'm just a bit disappointed with what's happened to the draw - it's exciting to have a new major champ but I'd have liked them to beat Novak in the F if they were going to win it.

Got a text from a friend saying one of the ESPN reporters mentioned he was sighted at JFK already. How early is he allowed to leave? Aren't there rules mandating players stay for some time afterwards or something like that?

I'm a neutral, yet I don't hate you for your view. I do think it's a completely biased one, and couldn't disagree more.

Really? Why wouldn’t he be allowed to leave?

He needed time to digest what had just happened IMO. That would have been a massive shock to the system. He owned up to the mistake he made. And yes, he made a mistake, and the correct decision was taken, no one is above the rules, not even my fav. It is a shame it ended the way it did, but it is what it is. I sincerely hope he and others learn from his wrong actions on the court.

They should at least let him keep his prize money he won up to that point. I read he has to forfeit $250,000 + possible fines.

The apology is fine and I really hope he's feeling as empty as he states he is. That's exactly how he should be feeling right now but something tells me he'll learn from this and bounce back even stronger. Even his most ardent detractors can't deny his incredible resilience.

Awww...somebody mad cuz I don't find this apology from this awful man-child tennis player worthwhile, considering he skipped the presser like a brat!!! LOL!

I think Djokovic is an utter idiot, and he keeps proving me right. Deal with it. I don't have to hero-worship this clown just because he has 17 grand slams.

There is no need for this. Let's just move on and look forward to a new slam winner.

It was an accident. Nothing even to be ashamed of as he did not even hit the ball hard in anger. It was identical to Henman. Just bad luck. I personally think he is a class guy off court as do all the locker room. Shame same cannot be said of some in the media

I know full well that he didn't want to smash that line judge's face in, but as a professional you are expected to follow the code of conduct out there. This isn't the first time something like this happened, I was very annoyed with him back at RG 2016 when he threw his racket in the fourth round and just barely missed a line judge, which would have cost him the RG title...he didn't learn from it.

And here, it was all from his own wrong doing. I know it was not intentional, but I am not going to excuse him either. He owned up to it, and that is all I can ask. I just hope now he finally controls his emotions, it is OK to be frustrated, but don't do certain things.

Your posts make me want Novak to destroy Rafa for 7 more years on hardcourt just so I can see you cry, and Rafa is an ok guy. You are the absolute worst.
