College Tennis Videos Discussion and Analysis

Couldn't watch past the first point. Server comes in behind a compete nothing serve and bobs up a nothing half volley. Returner rightfully takes the net away from him and then plays two complete nothing shots himself to gift the point back. That's one of the best points? Quality :-D

1st point looked like McEnroe in his prime.
2nd point is even more epic.

Agree. Never seen hitting like that. Even big hitters like Khachanov would wilt under the pressure of those heavy balls in a physical rally like that. It’s like if you took Nadal, Edberg, and Hewitt and made them the same player.

Just for lols and fun.

I'm not sure which college they are from, i'm making a guess, is it D2?

Their serves are not lethal like D1 yet, that's why I'm guessing D2.

The black shirt guy is a standard baseline grinder btw.

The way you can tell it’s not top D1 is that they actually have rallies.

So these are top points from Pac12 tennis matches. Obviously some of these commenters have no idea what good D1 tennis looks like.

My bad, I had it wrong, I think after some research, the first two tennis players appearing in OP vid is more closer to D2/D3 tennis style. Also one of them hit slightly differently than another. Different league doesn't necessary represent their UTR but the general style is completely different than most D2 as most D2 hit a lot flatter and have more net games as a result as well. Those beginning two one of them is more like a grinder type of player and they hit more topspin and higher net clearance.

I honestly don't know the real advantage of those different styles esp playing all in the hard court but it seems like different league just happen to play differently. Maybe D3 can beat D2 players but I don't know.

D1 is in a completely different league, they are like D2 but can hit winners left and right from the baseline center of the court. Serve is faster and bounce higher if needed.

Here is some examples of D3 I found online (I don't know why it is hard to find full match for D3)

Here is another example of D2 I found online

And this is D1 (I recognize that UCLA #1 in another vid)

Btw, I have no clue about this system, I just type in D2, and D3 in the search term. Don't beat me on it if I was wrong.

Yes, you have it very wrong

These are the players in the OP vid

One of them is currently a UTR 13.39

One is rated UTR13, beat a UTR12, UTR13, lost to UTR14 last year

One is unrated but a bit over a year ago played a competitive match vs a UTR14, destroyed a UTR11, beat UTR13

One is unrated and has not played in a while

What are you people smoking with D2 D3?

I never said anything about UTR or rating, I'm just playing a guessing game about which league they play in. If you are mixing those with their rating then I have no comment, maybe that's just how most people think, esp coming from someone who don't play US college tennis.

Maybe quote my full post instead next time?

13utr is D1 tennis level. Pac12 tennis is big time D1 tennis. So not sure why you think the video of pac 12 highlights are D2 or D3 schools. D2 and D3 can have some excellent players as well. Many can play on D1 teams.

I think i have found the pattern of your analysis. I understand how you come up with the evaluation from just watching videos.
I think from now on, to get a better evaluation, you should add at least .5 NTRP point to what you have in mind.
For example, if you think the player looks 4.0 in the video, 4.5 is more likely, 3.5 --> 4.0, D3---> D2, D2--->D1.

Just a really, really strange guy. I must have come across him hundreds of times and I’ve still never seen him hit an actual ball

Interesting. Do you mean all he did was feed or did he literally not touch a ball?!

I used to train with a coach that never actually hit, all he did was feed balls and in a random pattern at that. He was nice but really weird now that I think about it. I had another coach who couldn't move due to physical limitations so a lot of sessions we had two players on the court.

Still don't know where you get the NTRP from. I liked how we went from UTR to NTRP out of nowhere from my comments and both only commented on one or two of my full post.

I think I fed the keyboard warrior too much lately, but now I also understand the pattern of their responses now.

Sorry i dont mean any offense. I do the same thing you do. I watch people play thinking i can beat, and then get my *ss handed to me.
I was following your evaluations of videos and thats my observation. Simple as that.

Man, I even said it was for fun and lol and I am doing the guessing challenge of the which programs they are in without looking up their names and stuff. Now you are putting words in my mouth by saying I also implied that I am saying I can beat those guys? I guess maybe this is you, but I don't even think about that way nor do I even implied that way.

However I applauded you. It is courageous and ambitious that you think that way, and you should keep it that way, because those who lose their fire will not grow and thus will not get better. At least you have a dream, a dream that already festered in a lot of other keyboard warriors in this forum.

That's why I also think @Curious will get better a lot faster, he still has the fire in him.

I didnt mean you think you can beat them. I meant: i underestimate their level from videos. Thats it.
That could just mean: video level is lower than real level.

Interesting stuff is, who wins is mostly determined by outcome of those points missing the highlight reel. Longer points for competitive matchup usually end in favor of either player more or less equally.
Also, on behalf of my dose for blatant claims, I believe they (first two) would benefit from more powerful (heavy) frames. Those Babs do big boom, but the fact guys cannot hit past each other even swinging out of their shoes...
