Confidential but more arm friendly?

I like the exceptional control and precision of confidential. Since switching to a 18x20 racquet (tf40) I went down in both tension (52->48) and gauge (17->18) to get a bit more comfort and dewell. Still I feel some soreness in my arm, especially when it's cold.

What in ur experience is the best way to make a string more arm friendly without changing how it plays (control, launch angle, etc.)? A tad bit more power is fine as long as it's not significant. Currently considering:
- reducing main tension further (say 46lb) but keep the cross at 48 to hopefully maintain the launching angle because I don't want a rocket launcher.
- or hybrid with a softer poly cross like ghost wire. (tried poly/multi in the past and didn't like it)

I guess tour bite soft
That's another option I'm considering. Heard it has pretty good control for how soft it is. Not so sure about its ability to stay playable though. Plus would like to know if there are good ways to make it work with the same string I like before trying out new strings.

@fieryoOo I have found Tour Hex to be as, if not more, control oriented than confidential while being more arm friendly. Its a 6 sided string vs 5 sided, but I do not see that as a significant difference in playability. May be worth giving it a try and seeing how you like it / it performs for you. Curious to hear your results if you do.

Never heard of it but sounds promising. Thanks! Adding it to my list next to tour bite soft :)

@fieryoOo There are numerous mentions / discussion of Tour Hex on these forums, search is definitely your friend. It is sold direct from Mayami Strings. They are presently sold out, but expect to be stocked up again and ready to ship within a day or two I have heard.

@fieryoOo - Besides being lower-powered and controlled, Confidential is also muted (as opposed to crisp or direct). If you like that feel, then I would steer you towards something a bit more plasticky/rubbery, such as like Genesis Hexonic 2.0 Black, or for a bit more pop/power, Tier One Black Knight. In the TF40 18x20, I'd imagine 1.18 gauge in either would probably play best, maybe 1.23 if you want to add a bit more solidness to the string bed.

That said, the TF40 is pretty well dampened (with the foam filling), and as such, if you find that the more muted strings remove too much feel, you might want to go back in a more crisp direction. That's where something like Mayami Tour Hex or Tour Bite Soft might be a better choice.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! Made me wondering what I actually like about the confidential lol. I usually don't like racquets/strings that are too muted but it also never occurred to me that confidential is a muted string. It has enough feel for me as long as I string it below 50lb on the TF40s. It does go 'dead' after about 8 hours, but I found that this change in feel doesn't affect its control or precision much and I can continue swinging out with them until 15-20 hours. So my guess is that the precision and the long playability duration is what I'm really enjoying about this string. I don't necessarily like muted strings but in this case it is not bothering me.

Would you say that the tour hex and tb soft have similar control to the hexonic 2.0 black or tier 1 black knight? If that's the case I wouldn't mind the improved feel :). Tour hex doesn't seem to be available in thiner gauges though so I'll probably need to experiment with lower tension (I like the 1.15 confidential better than 1.20 in my TF40s).

Funny, I would describe Confidential as crisp. I tried switched to Hyper G soft but it's way more muted so I didn't like it.

What gauge are you using in Confidential? If you’re using 1.25 try going down to 1.20. Tier One Tour Status may be another option.

What I was thinking too. I get enough feel from the string bed and I know exactly where the ball is going. I was never too sure what 'muted' mean exactly though lol

@fieryoOo - "Muted" in the tennis string sense means muffled, numb, vague, damp, slightly rubbery. Many, myself included, find Confidential to be more on that end of the spectrum, as opposed to "crisp", which would be synonymized as sharp, high vibrational feedback, firm, even harsh at times (especially if strung too high). Some examples of crisp strings would be Gamma AMP Ocho Silver, Luxilon Alu Power, Kirschbaum Max Power. Hope that helps.

OK sounds like I have a few good options now:
  • Tour Bite Soft
  • Mayami Tour Hex
  • MSV Focus Hex/soft/+38
  • Tier One Tour Status
I want to find something that performs as close to confidential as possible in terms of control and longevity. Anyone has suggestion on which one to go for in that regard? It doesn't need to be softer by too much. I'm just having some minor (but persistent) soreness in my arm from playing four times per week and I don't sense it becoming a tennis elbow yet.

Tour Hex offers well above average control and tension maintenance / playability durability which is why so many players I string for are using it. It also has not caused any arm issues for anyone.

Solinco Revolution would be another one to consider. I don’t prefer it to Tiur Hex but some might.
