Couldn't happen to a nicer guy and in front of his home crowd as well!

Good for Kei, good for Japanese tennis!

Congrats to Japan. The guy played very well, I was impressed by his shotmaking - not a single stupid shot, calculated approaches, fine volleys, line-painting on several occasions, and GOAT passing shots.

Kei really impressed me from what I saw. Hope he breaks into the top 10 soon. I'd love to see him at the top - I enjoy watching his game a lot.

Nishikori played absolutely incredible this entire week. His match against Berdych was unbelievable! He had multiple break points on just about every single Berdych service game. He could have easily double-bageled Berdych had he converted some of those break points. And then he just absolutely schooled Baghdatis in the semis. There was nothing Baghdatis could do. And then he bagels Raonic in the 3rd set by breaking him 3 times in a singles set? Raonic had not been broken even once the entire week until the semis and he loses his serve 3 times in a single set? Unbelievable!

If Nishikori could play at this amazing level from now on, I could seriously see him become #1. I'm serious! He was playing amazing tennis on the level of a peak Djokovic! I think Grand Slam titles is definitely within the realm of possibility for Nishikori if he continues to play like this.

Congrats to Kei and to Japan. :)

while i don't doubt kei, he needs to perform like this in all tournaments, not just the asian swing if he wants to become no.1

Everything I saw of him this tournament has been brilliant and it was a thoroughly deserved win. I'm extra pleased he could do it in front of his home crowd, and also thrilled that it will reap rewards for Japanese tennis and the event organisers.

True.. Kei is one of my favorite players, but tbh I don't see him winning Grand Slams anytime soon. I feel like he's one of those players that can take out good players once in a while and win some small tournaments but can't consistently beat top players in a short time period, which is necessary if you want to win a GS. But who knows, he has shown good stuff until know. Let's wait and see.

Some really classy cross courts in this one from the highlights package - really pleased for him, and would love to see him top 8 at some point!

Funny how this year's final went to 3 sets with the 3rd set a bagel just like last year's final !

2011 Murray beat Nadal 3-6,6-2,6-0.

2012 Nishikori beat Raonic 7-6,3-6,6-0.
